I have seen ads for this machine, which is large and I don't like that about it, but if it is as effective as it claims to be, it would be worth the space it would take up. Does anyone own this expensive litter container and if so, what is your opinion of its operation and cost to buy, vs the overall cost savings?

I have used the Litter Maid unit and after about a year it didn't work anymore (about $179). I now use the Petmate (about $159) which is also electric, not as loud as Litter Maid, but wastes more litter when shoveling into the receptacle (it shoves good litter into it). Both were effective, but required emptying the receptacle and buying more litter; not a fun thing to do, but better than standard litter boxes (about $25).

Any comments would be appreciated.

I have also seen the Cat Genie but there are some things to think about.
1) There is a cleaning solution that you have to buy.
2) It has to have a water and draining source, like a bathrub, sink or toilet. I live in an apartment and don't want my litter box right next to my toilet or flushing waste into my kitchen sink or bath tub. Just not my cup of tea.

Now I have also tried many cat products...I spoil my cat rotten. I don't like the rake system used in most automatic cat box's since the clog and jam and often break down in very little time. Not to mention buy over priced special "recepticals" to catch the clumps and what not. Plus they never sealed well and my cat kicked sand all over the place.

I have been using the Litter Robot for over a year now and I love it to death. It is a little large and looks like a giant web camera that your cat climbs into but I have not had a single problem with it. The collection bin underneath it can hold about a week and a half to two weeks worth of waste before being full and a single 13 gal. kitchen trash bag is all you need to line the pan. Go to this web address to check it out.

It's going to hit your wallet for about $300 like the Cat Genie but it is low maintance and a very good product. It uses any standard clumping litter. I change the bag out once a week and add like 3 cups of litter to replace what was used. Hope this helps you out.
