I have an 89 ford mustang gt 5.0 5 speed and I cannot start the car. It will not even turn over. We charged the battery for 3 hours with a car battery charger and we also tried to jumpstart the car but everything has failed! Please please help. I have no clue what's wrong with my car. I usually can figure just about anything out about it but this has just got me stumped. Also I want to add, I even tried popping the clutch with the key on and the car in 3rd gear, but that failed also!

if the battery has a bad cell in it it will act like its charging up ,but really it wont hold a charge, and without some power from the battery it wont even start by pushing it off,it needs some power to run the fuel pump,so this might be why it didn't start.id try changing the battery in it,that may be the whole problem with it,good luck on it.

"if you turn the key and nothing happen, and you know your battery is good, locate the neutral safety switch, it allows the car to only start if the gear sector is in neutral or park. That's should be were you start with."

It's a 5-speed, there isn't a neutral safety switch.

Do you have oil in the engine? Did the engine over heat? Try turning the crank with a socket and breaker bar, if it turns that's good sign, because that means the engine isn't locked up.

Was the car actually rolling when you tried popping the clutch? I always performed that in 1st gear. I think it'll start easier in 1st.

Sounds like you have an electrical problem.....battery.

Is your clutch pushed in all the way? If it is then there is a kill switch that only disengages when the clutch is all the way in. Otherwise the car wont start with the clutch out. Try tightening up the clutch cable and seeing if it just wasnt pulling the clutch out all the way to bypass that kill switch

You say that you tried popping the clutch in 3rd gear, but that failed also. If you mean the engine failed to turn over, then I think that something has siezed inside your engine and that is has had it .

It's one of 4 things, A bad ignition switch, a bad clutch pedal switch, a bad starter or solenoid, or bad cable connections either at the battery, starter or engine block.

Test the starter? Take a tire iron or small hammer and whack the starter a couple of times. It may free up a stuck starter.
