Maurice, oh please think a bit. You are being told that you have to be treated just like everyone else. Thats not an Atheists laws being put into a Theists life. Thats being told that no Theist can rule them all.

Your religion is not the one religion to rule them all. Your religion is not the one religion to find them all. Your religion is not going to bring them all and in your own particular darkness, bind us all to YOUR will.

Atheists want you to be treated just like everyone else. Thats not Atheists trying to force our laws into your life. Its telling you that your religions laws ONLY apply to YOUR RELIGION and no other.

So stop playing the "poor oppressed me, even though I'm part of the most powerful and influential religion that can do pretty much anything it wants" schtik. We're sick of hearing it.

Now, to answer the actual question... I'm not. I think religion is crap.

You can't be serious?!?! Here is a dose of reality for you.

Q: What concepts are laws SUPPOSE to convey in a society?
A: Laws convey the societies view of what is right and what is wrong and the punishment for doing what is wrong.

Q: What is the actual concept or term used to describe "right" and "wrong"?
A: Morality.

Q: How does an individual, or on a larger extent society as a whole (especially in a democratic form of governement), make the decision about what is morally acceptable?
A: The individual (whether in the ballot box or not) uses their judgement (or moral foundational principles) to make the decision.

Q: Does it matter what the background is of the person as to how they come to the decision?
A: Yes and No. Athiests and religious oriented individuals can both be objective and good intentioned. The only difference is that athiests look only to what they FEEL is right or wrong while someone who is more religious oriented SHOULD have a higher basis for making their decisions which would trump any personal feelings they may have. Understanding a person's (or societies) background belief system will often lead to better understanding of what laws they form. In other words, you will force your beliefs into our laws just as much as I will if we both do our civic duties by staying involved in our republic form of government.

Honestly, I would rather know the laws of this land are based on moral foundatin greater than the human passion and desire and greed.

A registered voter in a participatory representational government. That gives me the right to do what I can to turn my beliefs into laws.

Luckily enough, my participatory representational government has checks and balances built into its constitution that permits those who disagree with my beliefs turned into laws a recourse for getting rid of them. Unfortunately, most of the citizenship in my nation chooses to not participate in government.

FYI: I'm an atheist Zen Buddhist. My religious beliefs aren't very legislatable, but my beliefs about how the country should be are.

Are you talking about the Flying Spaghetti Monster Loons? Yeah they're always trying to force their beliefs on everyone!

What- oh, them? Yeah, they're control freaks for sure. They are so unhappy in their lives that they feel the need to control everyone else. When converting them fails, they try to change laws to force everyone to follow their beliefs.

It's gotta be someone's beliefs that are turned into law.
Why should it be yours?

Examples?
If you are talking about unconstitutional laws, then I am right with you, sister. But if you are mad because public morality cramps your style, then I don't have much sympathy. This is a democracy.

That would make me a Senator or a Representative -- unless it is a ballot initiative and then I am 51% or more of the people.

Move to England if you don't like the USA. The muslims are taking over there. I am sure you will like their laws when they completely take over.

I am not doing that. I am quite content to go by the Constitution.
