I know, everyone thinks their child is a genius. I'm not sure where my son should be developmentally. He is counting to ten (not skipping any numbers and doing so consistently). He also knows about 10 colors. So, is this normal, or ahead?

BRAVO!
You neglected to mention his age.
If he is age 5, then he should be right on track.
If he is older (6 or more) then he might be a bit behind his class. :-(
If he is age 4 or less, then I would encourage him to play with many of the Educational toys that (I'm sure) your local Wal Mart sells.

I would say he is advanced for a boy to be talking and recognizing at 2 yr and 2 mo. When he knows his colors, can he get them right with things he hasn't been shown before, meaning when you are out of the house, does he still get them right? Also, learning to recite (rote) numbers is a good sign for his memory skills but he probably wont get the actual counting (counting numbers to objects) till a bit later, which for him might be early for his age too. As long as he is interested in this and isn't being drilled.

My sister could count to ten by 2. I'm not sure about colors though. My son is 18mo and a count with him all the time but he refuses to say any numbers but 2. He's stubborn.

I wouldn't say genius as I believe that most children his age are capable of that and more, as long as the parents work with them. I don't work with my son(2 1/2) nearly as much as I think I should, but he still can point out most of the letters of the alphabet when asked and names them when I point to them. He knows his primary and secondary colors, and we're working on counting.
However, by most people's standards your child is very smart. I just wish more people would realize that their kids are capable of so much more.

No, he is about right.
You can start teaching him to find his name, teach him the letters in his name, label his room, etc.
You can also teach him how to count out objects now- start with 1 and move up. "Give me 1 cookie." Later, can you count out 3???"
P>S. I checked out your other posts to see that he was 2.

He's about right. All five of my children were very verbal, could count, knew the ABC's and their colors by two.
