My father passed away when I was nearly ten years old. My mother told me when I was much younger that whenever I would have a dream about my dad, it was sort of his way of reaching out to me. Sometimes, I still have dreams about him and they're the most casual, normal situations I'm involved in but, my dad's there, just as I remembered him being when I last saw him. Is it possible what my mother said is true and what do those dreams mean?

Also, why don't I really dream of him him much these days? It's not that he's on my mind constantly, I guess because I was so young, I've grown used to things being as they are now. It's just sort of been killing me lately, because it's like for that short dream, I've got a piece of my life back that I never really got to have.

Do not let anyone take away what ever comfort your dreams give you. As a child I dreamed of my uncle being beaten and thrown in a trash can. The next night it happened but he survived and is now 70. Dreams can be a way of the subconscious mind finding refuge during troubled times as well as a path for the unexplained.

As humans we use only 10% of our brain... who is to say what the other 90% could achieve or is capable of.

Keep a journal...track your days and your dreams. See if you tend to dream of your father during times that are troubled or stressed. If not then maybe your mom was right. If her words gave you comfort accept them and enjoy those stolen moments with your father.

That is weird because i have dreams about my Grandpa who died a couple of months ago. And it's like you describe yours-how you last remember him.... doing casual things. I think that it is God's way of comforting people by sort of giving them a chance to say goodbye....so you don't feel so lonely. What your mom said could be true but also you could just be having dreams about him if you think about him a lot.

According to Dreamcrowd:

To see the dead in your dream, forewarns that you are being influenced by negative people and are hanging around the wrong crowd. You may suffer material loss. This dream may also be a way for you to resolve your feelings with those who have passed on. If you dream of a person who has died a long time ago, then it suggests that a current situation or relationship in you life resembles the quality of that deceased person. The dream may depict how you need to let this situation or relationship die and end it. To see and talk with your dead parents in your dreams, represents your fears of losing them or your way of coping with the loss. You may want that last opportunity to say your final good-byes to them. To see your dead sibling, relative, or friend alive in your dream, indicates that you miss them and are trying to relive your old experiences you had with them. In trying to keep up with the pace of your daily waking life, you dreams may serve as your only outlet in coping and coming to terms with the loss of a loved one. See also: Die

It is very common to dream about all kinds of faces. Strange faces and familiar faces alike are frequent images in our dreams. Interpret your dream by considering the face and the general content of the dream. A stranger's face could represent different parts of your personality or psyche. You think that you are seeing a stranger but in actuality you are seeing a different part of yourself. Jung said that the stranger is a part of you that comes from the unconscious. A comic face may indicate that you have a conscious or unconscious need to mock or snub the conventional. Featureless faces suggest that you may feel unnoticed and unappreciated. On the other hand, some believe that the blank or unclear face represents a teacher. That is someone who is there to show and teach you a lesson but you are unprepared for it and the face is blank. Smiling faces are representative of happy thoughts and feelings and possibly anticipation of a joyful event in the near future. Always remember the compensatory nature of dreams and their ability to point to the opposite of what you experience in daily life.

When the mind enters the 'dream' state, then it is more open to any spirits or vibes around them. This could very well be your father comunicating to you through your dreams to let you know that he still loves you, and is still (in some form) there for you.

Usually dreams of dead relatives that are paranormal experiences are more real and you may notice smells and or tactile sensations that are more real than in other dreams.
Many of your dreams are probably your way of reaching out to him, but I would not be surprized if just as many are his way of reaching out to you.
