Anyone who has sense enough to examine the historical facts of the matter, as well as the authentic teachings and practices of the church from the earliest days, must come to the conclusion that the Catholic church is the one, true church, and the only church that was founded, authorized, empowered, and guaranteed by Jesus Christ.

And because Jesus remains the head of the church, and the Holy Spirit remains the church's arbiter of divine truth, nothing else really matters.

The Catholic church has it's share of sinful and corrupt individuals ... some of them priests and bishops ... but even Jesus had his Judas!

The others have allowed themsleves to be deceived by the same type of fellows who made up their entirely new religions, during the 15th and 16th centuries.

The "reformers" had absolutely no power or divine authority then, and any salvific power to be found in any protestant Christian denomination of today is only due to the fact that, by the power of the Holy Spirit, some still continue to subsist within the Catholic church, though imperfectly so.

Their totally unbiblical doctrines of "sola scriptura" and "sola fide" prove the case against them, since neither can be found anywhere in authentic scripture.

Furthermore ... the church preceeded the bible by some 400 years ... so the life of the church is not dependent on the scriptures ... and the bible itself is a product of the Catholic church and it's Tradition.

All evangelicals (like Lutherans, baptists, Presbyterians, Pentecostals, etc, etc), will agree on the SAME BASIC doctrines, like deity of Christ, trinity, salvation by faith only, Bible as the final authority, etc. Therefore, they will admit all other evangelicals are saved, although they disagree on minor doctrines.

On the other hand, the groups which add anything to the Bible as authority (at the same level of it, or above it), have mistakes. Most of the time they think they are the "only ones with the right doctrine" or "the only ones saved". That addition to the Bible may be other books (like Mormons) or the writings of their leaders (like Jehovah's Witnesses) or tradition (like Roman Catholics). Some groups called themselves "evangelicals" may also do that, and, therefore, have mistakes regarding basic doctrines; or maybe they are just "nominal" believers, no matter what they say they are. They may also not be really saved.
But if the Bible is really put as the final authority, the basic doctrines will be the same. And only God will be glorified as the perfect one.

I think it's all based on faith. I am Roman Catholc due to my upbringing and then as an adult I've read and studied about many beliefs. I have decided that the Catholic Church is the church that Jesus started with the apostles with my readings, studies and prayer life. I completely understand your question! I had that question for many, many years. It's up to you to read and pray and figure out what you feel in your heart is true. I can't prove that the Catholic Church is the true church in a few sentences here. Plus faith can't be taught. It's something you come to on your own. Use faith and reason when you decide.

Jesus should be the front and center of religion. A person should strive to keep the 10 commandments, honor Father, Son and Holy Spirit. pray. It is by grace (the grace of God via Jesus) we are saved by faith. If a religion does not have these as being pinnacle, they are false. Read the Bible, attend various denominational Church's and see which one coincides with the above/what's written in the Bible. The Bible is the word of God to us. If a church does not teach as does the Bible indicates, then that Church is not following Gods word.

There are a lot of reasons why we have so many denominations.

1) Personal agenda interfering with an honest interpretation of scripture. Maybe a group of people decide remarriage after divorce is ok, so they branch off and start their own church where it is accepted. Maybe another group doesn't understand the gift of tongues, they think it must be of Satan, so they branch off and start their own church where it is avoided.

2) Honest misinterpretation of scripture. Sometimes they're just misunderstood, like anything else can be.

3) The only one who has a full and complete understanding of the Bible is the One who wrote it. We do our best to understand, but God never said we have to be perfect. He just said we have to have faith in Jesus Christ and be born again in Him. That's the common concept in all branches of Christianity.

If Jesus called Peter the same name as the rock that he said he would build His church, then you might have a point. But he didn't use the same word. He basically called Peter a pebble. What he said is that he would build his church on is a rock:
pevtrafrom the same as (4074)

Petra6:95,834

pet'-ra Noun Feminine
Definition
1. a rock, cliff or ledge
1. a projecting rock, crag, rocky ground
2. a rock, a large stone
3. metaph. a man like a rock, by reason of his firmness and strength of soul

"Peter" is this word:
Strong's Number: 4074 Browse Lexicon

Transliterated WordTDNT Entry
Petros6:100,835

pet'-ros Noun Masculine
Definition
Peter = "a rock or a stone"

1. one of the twelve disciples of Jesus

So I believe that the phrase :
Matthew 16
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

is the 'rock' that Jesus was referring to.

But we do know that Jesus is the Rock of Salvation:
Psalm 95:1
Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.

So for all we know, Jesus gestured towards Himself. If find that in the history of the Roman Catholic Church, it is highly defamatory to Christ for the Roman Catholic Church to assume ANY sort of relevance as to the delegation of power from God to "The Church". If they hadn't kept the truth from the people for so many centuries ( Bibles being outlawed except by the clergy) , then they would have a point. But they did not do that! They held the truth away, making those who had Bibles; especially in their native tongues, outlaws and subject to the persecutions of the Inquisitions, making them anything but loyal to Christ and the message of the Gospel.

So to you, I 'explain yo' self' by telling you that the Roman Catholic Church is none other than a politically motivated, idolatrous religious affair, with men seeking glory for themselves and their organization rather than the truth of Christ prevailing.

I am not by you persuaded to think that the Roman Catholic Church is anything other than another sect with no right to call itself Godly.

I do believe that there are Roman Catholics that are going to be a part of God's kingdom, but only as the rest of us: because we have trusted God with what Jesus said:
"He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

:)

if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. One has to know that Jesus is the Savior GOD walking on the earth.

This is the faith, rest is religion/sect or whatever you want to say.

Peter preached the faith and GOD built the church on it which is still growing. Roman Catholics are idol worshippers who think they have guardian angels but don't believe in guardian GOD.

In fact, many sects are practicing idol worship without knowing it. Many (or most) churches have Cross in the center and pastors bow before it showing "GOD" respect by that. Sometimes they raise offering plates towards Cross.

Satan has penetrated to the core but GOD keeps the ramnents safe. So keep your faith simple and ask GOD for wisdom and truth. IF you are seeking a religion then you are on wrong track. Seek GOD.

Peace...
