Truth is that the immigrants of today GENERALLY speaking are the worst in United States history.
The women stomp in the streets mooing for benifits with a bull horn, demanding things that their grandparents had to work for.
The immigrants slap the flag of their country in your face while their grandparants really knew what it was like to be an American. They did not forget their heritage but they did not shove it in your face at every turn either.
They only thing they teach their children is not how to speek English - while their grandparents went to night school to learn the language of their new homeland.
They come here and join gangs and start fights and party - while their grandparants kept their noses clean because they knew that you can't better yourself if you are always in trouble with the law.
Nope the immigrants of today are everything that their grandparents detested.

I agree with you.

**To those of you that are downing every answer I give *coughs* and you know who you are, give it a rest. I can agree and that shouldn't be rated as a bad answer because it conflicts with your mess.

Do you know anything about history at all? Every new group of immigrants was met with hate by the "American citizens" who already lived here. The Italians. The Irish. Even the Japanse, many of whom were CITIZENS, were hated & deported back to Japan when WWII broke out. It's all about racism. Now Italians, Irish, Japanese & other groups of immigrants who make up this great nation are widely accepted with only small splinter hate groups in oppostion to their acceptance here. It will be the same for the Hispanics in 20 years or so. Americans never seem to learn. We have to keep repeating the same mistakes over & over again hurting many people & destroying lives in the process.

Now, to your question...I think the immigrants today are VERY MUCH like the immigrants of the past. They come here speaking a different language & are expected to know English the minute they step foot on the soil, they are met with hate, they are discriminated against, taken advantage of & hated for nothing more than the fact they are "different."

If some of you can bear with me on this and read before the thumbs down I'd appreciate it.

Answer:No they aren't like immigrants of the past. They don't care to become citizens. They would rather be home with their families and in the country they feel is home. Why do they come then you might ask..We have a trade agreement with Mexico called NAFTA which was suppose to improve economic trade and help Mexico. As most government programs it went wrong.Terribly wrong. Here as well as in Mexico. Here it has suppressed American wages and hurt our middle class almost to the point of extinction. There it destroyed the middle class.Their middle class by our standards would be considered the poor.So now Mexico has two classes, the very rich and the very poor.Of course they come to America. Most come with good intentions some don't.But those who come good intentions wouldn't leave if left a choice.NAFTA has left them NO CHOICE.Face it it's eat or die.We have a serious problem when people are forced from their homelands to a country they would rather not be in.But that's where we're at.Maybe we should take this factor into consideration when we talk about them not wanting to assimilate etc.and maybe we can at least address the REAL issues of illegal immigration.

You state on your question that your forefathers who got here to the united statesbroke no pre modern-day rules. it is so incorrect that that's humorous. Your forefathers could no longer have broken any rules that have been written by utilising the white guy yet what share treaties with the triumphing community inhabitants have been broken in the process the settling of your u . s . a .. what share adult males, women folk, and childrens have been murdered to make way on your forefathers. Are you asserting that murdering of natives isn't incorrect. as long as no white human beings have been murdered each and every little thing is okay. You aslo state which you have a project with immigrants sending money back to their families thereby taking money away out of your economic device. i could choose for to tell you that this has been a hassle-loose prepare for as long as immigration has been around. what share irish settlers despatched money back, what share Italians despatched money back and so on and so on. You seem to easily have a project with unlawful immigration from mexico. is this a private bias? I additionally choose for to assert that even nonetheless some immigrants from mexico may well be unlawful that they supply extra of a earnings and repair than they do injury. Who could do the jobs that no person else will do. Who could do your laundry, or sparkling your place, or wash your dishes. Unionization has forced the value of labour in the process the roof with none forethought as to what this could do to the economic device. great firms are outsourcing such a lot of jobs distant places that that's having an enhanced impact on your economic device than unlawful immigration ever could. Your call centers are actually in india. Your textiles are actually made in malaysia and south east asia. Your electronics are actually assembled distant places. rather of praising unionization, you will possibly desire to be holding them in charge for a great poriton of money leaving the U.S. Nike shoes are not to any extent further made in the U.S. using fact unionization has pushed the value of labour up so severe that the buyer could on no account purchase their products in the event that they had to pay those wages and as a result strengthen the value of their products. I propose that till now you open your mouth and make such ignorant and biggoted comments which you carry out slightly analyze on the subject somewhat than relyin entirely on you pre concieved notions and biases.

Look at the history books and then come and try to educate me. Immigrants legal or not have always had crime in their history. Just look at the Mafia. Do you think it started with citizens? Look at the wild west? Jeez you really sound ignorant! You just decide to look at what is convinient to you. I'm sure if you read up on this situation you will open your eyes and stop being a naive little child.

A line from a poem, “The New Colossus,” by the nineteenth-century American poet Emma Lazarus. “The New Colossus,” describing the Statue of Liberty, appears on a plaque at the base of the statue. It ends with the statue herself speaking:
Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.
All are welcome!

Not even close (for the majority). On top of that, in the past, the USA had land to spare and the immigrants could become part of the American dream. Now we are overcrowded and most immigrants can look to a future as last class workers rather then land owners and factory workers with reasonable pay - the modern replacement for slavery.

Not really, I think people have made this argument with every new wave of immigration. First it was the Irish and Germans.... then the Italians, Russians, and Jews... then the Chinese and Japanese. All were detested by Nativists and all have since largely been accepted. And now it's the Hispanics.

Immigrants waving flags from their countries of origin is not exactly new. Germans even marched in parades with Imperial German flags and showed Iron Crosses to show support for the Kaiser before US involvement in WW1. Even descendants of immigrants still carry around symbols of their heritage. How many times have you seen someone of Irish descent have a clover on some kind of clothing article? I still see Italian flags waving around outside homes and restaurants.

The lack of English ability is not new either. When Southern and Eastern Europeans and Asians first arrived in large numbers, they were seen by many "native" Americans as unassimilable. It's not a new notion that first generation immigrants often don't assimilate or interact with the general American population. This is evidenced by the many ethnic areas in large cities. (e.g. Chinatown, Little Italy)

It would also be unfair to say that modern immigrants cause more crime than anyone else. Studies show that immigrants, per capita, commit less crimes than citizens.

Modern immigrants are more dependent on the government than previous ones because the system has changed. America as a whole is more dependent on the government. Entitlements have not always existed in this country.

I think much of the resentment toward immigration today is due to the illegal immigrants whose entries are obviously unregulated, not immigrants as a whole.

The difference is not the immigrants but the illegal immigrants. Allot of the illegals are criminals, actually they all are. But the ones that are criminals before they cross the border are the ones causing us so many problems. It is so easy to cross our borders that people in trouble with the law in Mexico can come here easily to prevent prosecution in Mexico. The only answer is to close the borders once and for all. Of course this is not on the government calender because they are trying to open the borders with Mexico and Canada, It will be called the North American Union and they have already started building the highway that will go from Mexico to Canada.

Legal immigrants are the same as past generations for the most part. They strive and work to become Americans.
Illegal aliens are disrespecting our nation, laws and customs.
They are not following the traditions of immigrants, rejecting our language. But then, most didn't come to become Americans, but to siphon off our economy for their gain, rather than contribute to our nation.

I agree with you. It is almost as if the immigrants are on a "mission." They just HAVE to come here. Believe me, life isn't so bad in Mexico. I lived there for about a year on business, and it doesn't kill you.

Granted, I was living in comfortable surroundings, very privileged surroundings, but I saw people, regular people, making millions by themselves.
