Only much older tv sets had this problem. Anything made after the 1980s probably doesn't, and most of the stuff made in the 1980s probably doesn't either. If you are using a TV set that was made back then its amazing it still works as that was a very bad decade for quality (in general) and if you are sitting closer than 6 feet in front of your TV then maybe you need an eye exam. As to the remote, the infra-red beam is most likely too weak to cause cancer in any case.

Used to be that CRTs (Cathode Ray Tubes) put out a little bit of Beta radiation. Nowadays they put out a lot less because they're lower-powered. Beta radiation is nothing more than free electrons. (Kinda like lightning, only different.) Watching your television is probably less harmful than using your cell phone.
As for the remote, it most likely uses infrared to communicate with the television. You'd pick up more infrared radiation by stepping outside for one minute on a bright day than you'll ever get from a hand-held remote control.

No radiation from TV and remote does not cause any cancer, but radiation from micro-owen can cause cancer.
Do not keep any plastic bottle in freezer or do not wrap plastic wrapper on ur food into the micro-owen this can lead to cancer as dioxin is being released due to chemical reaction according to new studies.

though recent studies are highly in favor of this findings I really doubt it!!!!! In that case we get more radiations from our cell phones than our televisions!!!!
