Yes, you should take your lap top on this and any trip. A computer in the modern age is an easy and efficient way to communicate with friends and family while away and updating them on exciting adventures you may be having. The access to local events while you are at these places is previously unprecedented in history. You have more knowledge and information at your fingertips than ever before!

If you plan on flying though, I don't recommend putting this in your checked luggage. If this is a roadtrip, I still wouldn't put it in my checked luggage- there are a lot of bumpy roads out west!

Enjoy free wireless internet and the thousands of establishments that offer it.

Before you leave, rent the movie "City Slickers" - then decide.

Consider what kind of trip it is - if you're on a bus vs a train, etc.

I'd say leave it safe at home and don't worry about having to drag it + power cords, batteries, accessories all around.

If it's not a business trip, you won't need it. Bring a cell phone if you'll always be on the road and won't have access to a net cafe or hotel connection.

Take a book of puzzles, crosswords, MadLibs, a deck of cards, and music.

Take a break from the technology!!!

If you bring your laptop only in case you will be bored it is not worth bringing.
You can bring a game thing with you to keep from getting bored, which is much less risk.
While having a laptop with you can be fun, you will not use it enough to make up for the risks and annoyance to have to drag it at all times and its weight.
If you are willing to use your personal laptop for all the group, like taking all photos on it and making a souvenir disk for all, you might get help with keeping it safe and everything.
