The word soda comes from soda-water (sodium bicarbonate with acid to create fizz). Its original meaning was sodium carbonate, Na2CO3, but has evolved into one of the generic terms for a soft drink.
Pop was introduced later in 1812 by Robert Southey,
A new manufactory of a nectar, between soda-water and ginger-beer, and called pop, because ‘pop goes the cork’ when it is drawn.
In the midwest, at least I know for sure in Minnesota, they have never called it anything besides "Pop" !

Not anymore! Used to suck down the Cokes though. Exec pt when I am sick then I have to have root beer. I have to ask if you are from the Midwest? I live in the south now but grew up in Indiana and that is the only area that they call it pop, down here it is soda, soda pop (said more like one word) or cold drink.

We'll I don't usually drink pops, I may just drink two a month, and I would drink a Coke or Pepsi.

Yeah.recently i've had the taste for pop.Used to drink sparkling water but it lacked flavor.Classic Coke is my choice,Dr.Pepper,Vault,Vanilla Coke,Squirt (for that refreshing grapefruit flavor.)Diet pops are alright,but some are flat tasting.A great refreshingly cold diet pop is Diet Dr. Pepper.

Mountain Dew, I drink way to much of it. I will also have a Root Beer once in a while. I can't stand colas.
