Both of my grandfathers are buried in the cemetary and each time I go to place flowers I notice some of the head stones have rocks/pebbles placed on the headstone, could someone please tell me what this means or symbolizes I have been searching the internet for ages and have yet to find an answer. Thanks in advance I have been going to the cemetary for over 10 years and have always been curious.

True, it is a sign of deep respect among Jewish people.

But, lesser known (and a lot less likely than that mentioned above): When a leader or a great warrior of a Scottish clan died, he was often buried under a cairn (a pillar of stones); it was a considered a sign of respect to place a stone upon the cairn.

Like others have pronounced first and maximum properly known that guy or woman became an American. besides you seem at it you're desecrating an "human beings Grave", and any non secular association could have no result on no remember if or not human beings could be disillusioned. Any American no remember what faith, who had a head on their shoulders could be outraged. and of course this occasion in France outrages me, somebody who died in provider to their united states, no remember what they're combating for. in no way merits this.

Although it may be a sign of respect, the stones will be removed for uniformity.
