I want to wake up mid night. Is there any method to set computer to wake-up me using alarm sound

You can download an alarm. This is the one is use on my computer http://bluefive.pair.com/alarm.htm it works good and its free :)

there are clock programs that when running will act as an alarm clock. They only work when the coumputer is on.
If you are just interested in using an alarm function, you might also look for count-down timers.

I have a short HTML routine that will do just the thing, but wouldn't it be cheaper to go out and buy an alarm clock?

yes ofcourse,, actually you can use a computer for anything you want,, just use your imagination, but you also need the proper software for that,, for this in particular there's a software (free) called "alarm-PC timer" and also "PC-auto shutdown" ... in case you didn't find anything, just email me.. and I can develop a customized software just for your needs.
