He got little bumps all over his belly and boy parts so the next day I called the vet to ask what I could put on it. I mentioned he had a small red patch on his neck also and she asked me about it. When I looked at it, it was so much worse than it had ever been. I went to the vet and she said he had a hot spot that got a bacterical infection in it. He got two steriod shots and an antibiotic for the next 3 weeks. This was yesterday. Now today, the huge red sore looks green and puss y (I can't believe they just starred that out) . Is this normal for when an infection is coming out or should I be worried?

Keep it clean, these poor bulldogs have a history of skin conditions. I have one myself. If it doesn't look better after cleaning it in about a day or so, call the vet again.

Your dog has allergies! Maybe to his food, or to something in the environment, it's actually quite common. A vet that passes it off as 'hot spots' and leaves it at that is either in denial, or uneducated in the art of diagnosing atopic allergies.

Steroid treatments and antibiotics are great and all, but they don't work NEARLY as well as solving the actual cause. Talk to your vet about possible allergies, and perhaps try some hypoallergenic foods. If the allergen is airborne or contact, antihistamines often work wonders (except for flea allergies, the only solution then is Frontline!). Sometimes the dog is just unlucky, and has both food and contact./inhalant allergies.

It will take a few days for the antibiotics to start working. In the meantime you need to keep the area clean and dry. Use diluted betadine to gently wash it twice a day, then pat it dry. This will kill the bacteria on the skin. It will dry up fast.
