I am 30 years old, and I have been dating a new guy for about 2 months now. He is almost 33 years old, and I have noticed that he gets TOTALLY drunk (i.e., "blacks out", is very ill the next day, etc.) at least once every 2 weeks. Is this normal, or does he have an alcohol abuse issue?

According to most statistics your guy has a drinking problem. Age has nothing to do with addiction it can be a 15 yr old or a 90 yr old. Does your guy drink every day ie. a few beers or drinks? Daily use of alcohol is definitely a sign of alcoholism although Bing drinking characterized as drinking only once a week or so but drinking to get drunk - ie. black outs and hangovers - is also a sign of alcoholism.
Try talking to your guy and explaining that you feel that he might drink excessively and you aren't comfortable with the extent to which he is drinking! If your guy doesn't like what you have to say then I would move on and not waste anymore time with him. You can't help a person if he doesn't want the help!
Good luck in all you do!

Lookout dear one. Good question and most of us deal with this at some point in life.
The warning signs are there for you. 2 months since you met this guy and you should not be dealing with this type of issue.

Break away from it now. Wish him the best and dont look back.

If you decide to stay with him well you might as well go and get plastered with your friends. Make a party of it and invite his friends over as well.

I think he has an alcohol issue. he is almost 33 hes not 21 anymore. i think you should talk to him about it and tell him how it can lead to serious alcholism and how he is damaging his liver...just say "hey ive noticed ur out at least once every 2 weeks is there anything wrong? Can you please try not to get drunk soo much? thnx for listening.." if it gets worse tell him to go to rehab right away.

hope this helps! ; )

you're his "punching bag" in case you will...not that I recommend he hits you yet which you're who he takes his frustration out on b/c you're who's around. My ex husband became the comparable way, he'd drink and drink and drink and then grow to be a monster. I wager you while he sobers up he appologises to you too. this is the problem, he's in denial. You telling him he has an issue and that he needs help will in no way come out perfect, all he will this is ....there is something incorrect with you. i think of contacting yet somebody else who cares approximately him could be a good theory. you do not could desire to pass by way of this on my own. perhaps his mom stepping up and telling him....seem, me and (you) are fearful approximately you and we would such as you to get extra effectual and we like you. I left my husband b/c i could not cope with the abuse anymore and then it began moving over to our childrens and that became the line and he crossed it. Now, he tells me he's sorry and that he could have made it extra effectual....properly yea you're able to have yet i attempted to rigidity approximately you and help you yet you probably did not choose my help so I had to rigidity approximately me and my young toddlers. final analysis....he shouldn't substitute until he needs to, no you're able to make him. only be careful. attempt to stay clear of him while he's eating b/c yelling will grow to be screaming and screaming will grow to be throwing issues that could grow to be something worse.

This is definitely not normal.

If he "blacks out", start being very concerned for your personal safety.

When it's everynight, he's got a problem. When it's every other week, he's a party animal.
