my son is 6 years old. Diagnosed with mild Asperger's Syndrome and ADHD. Is this something I should be worried about at six years of age? The school district is aware of his Dx's but he didn't show any behaviors until the last two weeks of school... throughout the school year, his only behavior he was exhibiting was his impulsivity. Now, he's starting to ask the same question over and over.. and he's not playing...Am I worrying over nothing?

He's been to Gillette Children's hospital, they said he has a "mild form of Austim... "Asperger's".. He's also been seen by another specialist and dx'd w/ADHD.
I wish it were as simple as "just the school dx". He's also a very frustrated little man, b/c he's got speech trouble... (his was not an easy pregnancy or delivery... he almost died 3 times during delivery, I was at high rish of pre-term labor, and was vacuum assisted all of which are said to be contributory)

my little man is not on any medications. We tried it. it turned him into an empty shell... squashed his spirit. I and my hubby refuse to put him on any medication... the school district can kiss my A$$ if they insist. It's not going to happen..
he's a very, highly energetic boy, indeed; I guess I am just being overly concerned. I just don't want to see him shunned in school. I know how American society can be.

It is normal, He really does not want an answer, he just wants your attention. Sometimes I worry about this Dx of ADHD. It seems we want our children to fit a certain mold. Childhood is sometimes hard. But that's OK, not everyone is going to be engineers which seems like we are trying to make children into. He is impulsive good, he wants attention perfectly normal. I think by medicating a generation of children like American does. We are going to lose artist, painters, songs about the blues, great novels about tragedy and redemtion. And worse of all, they will never learn that thru pain comes compassion. Thru transgression comes forgiveness. We are bypassing a spiritual progress in an effort to get our kids that mini van, 3 bedroom home, and high blood pressure from a job that they hate.

I'm sorry you are going through this and I understand it must be difficult for you. My nephew has autism and he is very precise about what is what. It does sound like a form of autism. Pursue the doctors for a more complete diagnosis in order to receive the help you and your son requires.
I'm really proud of my nephew and he is a teenager now.

The only qualified person you can turn to is his DR. Typically, children are diagnosed with Aspergers around that age. Talk to his DR. To the poster below..ASpergers IS a milder "form" of autism.

Well, since you consider this to be new you should take a look at things that may have changed in his environment. Such as new foods, change in shampoo or soap, different toothpaste or sunscreen, new air freshener, etc. It is proven that what goes into or on our bodies does effect our behavior. Also, check out WWW.FEINGOLD.ORG. This has been such a huge blessing for us!

He isn't satisfied with your answer. Slow down and simplify so he can grasp your meaning. The curiosity of children is one of the most beautiful aspects of humans; don't "beat it out of him" like so many do by giving up on or discouraging their endless questions. That he is questioning is a good sign. He has a mind active enough to wonder.
Good luck with your youngster, good health to him, peace and love!

He may just enjoy hearing you talk and can't think of any other way to get you to do it. He got a response the first time, so it makes sense to do it again. Ask him to tell you what you told him the first time.
Try talking to him without his asking and see if it helps. Try conversing with him and asking him questions rather than waiting for him to initiate conversation.

Perhaps he is just a bit forgetful. Depends on how many times he repeats questions, to determine a problem or not.
