They seem happy enough, although we've only had them for two days or so. But the tale vibrates, and it's worrying me. Does anyone know why this happens?

Hahaha, this made me laugh. This is completely natural. It is simply a sign of excitement, much like people when they jump up and down. I used to have this story book that was all about cats tails and what they mean. You should feel very special to excite your cats in such a way :)

Tail straight up, Christmas tree--scared
Tail wagging slowly back & forth--interested
Tail wagging a little faster--losing interest
Tail stopped--concentration
Tail trembling--we really want whatever you're about to give us.
Happy cat: purr. I'm not sure if you can feel the purr in the tail, maybe.

If I haven't answered your question, e-mail me. I'm not an expert, but I have a 7 yo domestic shorthair.

Kittens do that, though I'm not sure why. It's normal. I work at a vet hospital and we see kitties that age doing it. It usually happens when they're intent on something so it may be related to the way adult cats almost vibrate when they're focussed on a bird they want to catch.

I have 1 kitty that did that. My dear Cedrick (passed away recenly at 18 years) Whenever I was talking to him or I would feed him he would vibrate his tail. We did extensive research and it is a way that some cats tell you they love you. Try to see if they do this in specific time. If not, it you still think it is strange ask you vet

Thats actually a good sign! Its actually a sign of affection. It means your kitties are happy and spoiled :)

Some cats will do this when they are about to spray though, so make sure they aren't marking their territory.

Its a very natural happy sign.

Cats do that when they are excited. They wag their tails when angry or conflicted. Normal.
