I agree with what someone said before. Get a spray bottle and tell her it's snake poison. Keep it on her bedside table so she can get to it. You may want to put glitter or something so it doesn't just look like water. Maybe put just a drop if food coloring in it, but not to much or it could stain.
You could also get sugar or something and tell her it's snake repellant and have her help you sprinkle a little along where the walls meet the floor and by her windows and also under her bed.

P.S.- I would like to know why people are so rude? This woman hasn't slept properly in over a month. I would like to see them go over a WEEK with little sleep and then try to spell correctly....

She had to have gotten this idea from somewhere- either a t.v. show or even cartoons- and now she's scared b/c of it. Try filling a spray bottle w/ "snake repellent" ( which is actually just water) and before she goes to bed spray around her room and tell her that it'll keep the snakes away. If that doesn't work after awhile then I'd talk to her doctor about it.

Okay, my mom has told me this story a million times. Apparently when I was about that age, I kept waking up screaming about snakes or spiders. My mom got out the air freshener(I'd use a fabric refresher if it's her bed) and told me it was "snake spray". She then thoroughly sprayed my bedroom floor and presto, no more nightmares. Maybe you could buy a spray bottle and lightly scent some water(or let your daughter do it) and make your own "snake repellant", which you could let her spray in her room to make any snakes stay away. Research night terrors and nightmares and see the pediatrician to see what else can be done. Good luck!

Try this: fill a small squirt bottle with water & tell her it is snake poison. Anytime she sees a snake, she can squirt it and it will be gone.

In addition, or alternatively (I've used this method & it worked quite well for us), you can ask her which of her stuffed animals is not afraid of snakes. Allow her to choose the one or two bravest stuffed animals she has. Then set these on the foot of her bed before she goes to sleep & tell her they will stand watch to keep the snakes away while she sleeps.

Either of these methods will offer her a form of empowerment which should help her feel like a stronger, more capable person & hopefully it will only be a few more nights before she is over the anxiety.

Best wishes!

I feel for your little girl because I too am afraid and know what it is like to have a restless night because of it. Call me a chicken, but when something spooks me it takes me a while to get over it. I can't imagine how she feels being so small and scared.

Try to go around her room and check for snakes under the bed, in the closet, etc. Get her a night light and be patient w/ her.

My 4 yr/old did the same thing. She woke up almost every night for a month screaming that her 7 yr/old brother was throwing worms on her. All I could do was calm her down, try and show her there were no worms and wait for her to fall asleep. I realized that she didn't know that dreams weren't real. So, in the morning, I would talk to her about it and soon after that she stopped. Good luck!

Is she seeing a therapist?? That might be a good idea.. That doesn't mean something is wrong, they can help ease her. Maybe you could take her to like Petco where they have them so she can see they aren't as bad as she thinks they are....

That sounds retarded coming from me cuz I can't stand them. Live in the country with them. Almost bit by one when I was 8 months prego. BUT for the sake of the child, to belittle them would be a great idea..lol

How things get better with her.. That has got to be terrifying for her!!!!

Take a can of air freshener or something else safe and spray it in her room before she goes to bed. Call it "Snake Be Gone" Then when she goes to bed she will feel more safe and secure.

What she has is called "Night terrors" it's fairly common. Since she is not getting any better, than you need to take her to the doctor and talk about what they can do to help.

I'm sorry for your little girls nightmares/night terrors. I'd suggest you talk to her pediatrician and maybe take her to a psychologist who can work with her on her fears and give her more of a sense of control.
