I currently see a CNP at my nearby medical clinic and I am curious just what can this CNP do and cannot do in the medical field should I be seeing a REAL DOCTOR?

a CNP works under the purveiw of a doctor. A CNP can diagnose, and prescribe, and treat. The only thing a CNP is not licensed to do that a doctor is, is surgery. Personally, I'd rather see a CNP than an MD, they tend to be less pompous and more empathetic.

They are direct supervision of MD They can prescibe medication, recommend specialist for you acess medical problemsI live in a city that has two CNPs that have their own office and see patients on a routine basis sort of like a urgent care facility.Good thing here is the office visit is much cheaper and I feel for the most part they give as good of care then some MDs,they do have to spend a lot more time in school and get far more intinse medical training. The only down side I can from a patient view point is a lot of MDS hire them to work intheir office and the Doctor doesnt have to actually see but once a year. Also the office visit fee is just the same as Doctors fee is

Nowadays most things that you need, plus they have a MD on hand to extend prescribing priveleges. Save your $ if it is cheaper, unless you have a real problem you feel needs more training to address. They can't do surgery. There may be some emergency procedures that are prohibited. But as a doctor's agent they can do damn near all else.
