Religion came about because there were, and are, so many things in this world that we just don't yet understand. A long time ago, people didn't know why it rained, or why the crops didn't grow that particular year, so they attributed it to an all powerful God. It is the easiest and most simple solution. As time progresses, humankind is becoming more educated as we learn and discover why things are the way they are. We have learned that there are more sound and scientific reasons for things. I recommend reading The Origin of the Species by Charles Darwin. My point is that we have and will continue to discover why this universe works the way it does. Eventually there will be no reason for anyone to use a god as an excuse for things because our knowledge and society will continue to progress until God is obsolete.

If god were real then i guess you support slavery, rape and murder in the name of God instead of good morals.

As for me I am atheists but the only religion that has seemed to intrigued me if i were ever open to religion was the Norse Heathen religion even though I'm hispanic. I found reak heathens show that nazi's only tried to pervert astatru ithink its called for there propaganda purposes. I like to read about it but i don't beleive its real. However it's interesting though because the gods are still mortal and can die but have super natural powers. unlike other religions the gods are in many ways just like a normal person. They have there weaknesses and strengths. Were as in a religion like Christianity theres only one and he cant be beat no matter what sounds pretty boring and unreasonable

Never saw much sense in believing AND besides it's irrelevant, isn't it?

As you have pointed out, believing in a god or gods has nothing to do with religion. Religion is an entire other matter.

I realized one day I was forcing myself to believe in things I knew that were not true. I decided to believe only things that made logical sense. God went. I feel intellectually honest now.

Lack of reliable evidence, and the desire to think that there is something more. People want to believe that there is an afterlife, I've tried to guard myself against beliefs that stem from my desires.

No one thing convinced me. It's an accumulation of nonsensical claims, topped with a complete lack of evidence to support any of them.

A zillion things, but the fact that I can't believe a hell exists clinched the whole deal for me.

No proof or scientific basis. What makes you believe there is a god?
