Huge!
While current politicians get the opportunity to prove their immorality, atheist have to overcome the "fact" that they are immoral, "by definition".
That is a prejudice that remains. We are more willing to accept faith of any kind over no faith.

Probably not, why people would vote along the lines of religion (or lack of) is beyond me. All politicians are liars and deceive people to some degree. Some are just worse than others. I'm a Christian, but I would trust an atheist as much as I would trust someone who call them self Christian (in other words, not at all)
Religion usually has little to do with how a person does in office. There is no past or present candidate that I honestly believe has strong religious beliefs of any sort, so an atheist might be the most honest after all, lol. I don't think most atheists (except the ones on Y/A) make a big deal of their atheism and advertise it to the world, so it probably won't be a big deal unless the candidate decides to make it a big deal. And I imagine that would be a bad idea, since so many people are wary of atheists, so they will probably be more of a closet atheist. I personally will vote for the person with the best policies who I think will do the best job, whether they be atheist, christian, buddhist, whatever.

Yes, and the believers will get an opportunity to see first hand that Atheists are not evil or communist. They can be assured there will be no persecutions, inquisitions or witch hunts like the Christians have done over the years. Especially intimidation and persecutions of every form.

Kudos to Molly for getting it! It's just as bad as "religious" candidates pandering from their fellow believers. Not that it matters in the outcome; look, JFK would never have been elected if he hadn't pandered to the Catholic base, and he's one of the best we've had. But as far as the democratic process, shouldn't we be trying to get people out to vote based on the strength of our ideas, not on whether they're the same belief-set as us, or the "proper" gender, or the "right" skin color? They're all equally horrible reasons for voting for someone. Just my idealistic outlook on things....
Peace to you.

They've virtually ALL been atheists already. Just because they say they're Christians, doesn't mean they are. Bush, Clinton, Reagan, Carter, etc all claimed to be Christians, but what do they mean by that?
They're just pandering for votes. Now suddenly Hillary found the Lord? Please don't be so gullible.

Yes it will be a milestone.
It will be the first time this country has completely turned it's back on God with a public rejection of him.
After that happens, things will get much worse, considering almost if not every country's culture is faith based, they'll have a valid reason to call us the "great satan" (in their eyes), and hate us even more.
Foreign policy would be a disaster.

No.
Especially for fellow Atheists that value the seperation between church and state. To impress their non-religious status upon their platform is just as similar as one stating they belong to a particular religion.
