I am interested in getting a beagle, but I'm not sure if they are good dogs. I have a 1 and half year old. How are they around kids? (I'm interested in a puppy so it will grow up with her) I've heard that they howl alot.
also, would they be better than a Welsh Corgi? Thanks.

Beagles are great dogs. Mine loves everyone. He gets along great with my other two, a Terrier/Chi and an APBT. He is good with kids, mostly ignores them. The Pit is the best with kids, she just has to be around them.
The Beagle is the quietest of the three. The Terrier is the first to start barking at any sound and the Pit follows along. The Beagle usually just stays where he is at. It has to be something he thinks is serious before he will bark and when he does he has the hound bay.
You have to keep them under control as they will pick up a scent and follow their nose. Keep it on a leash. You have to teach them to come when called. I taught my dogs that when I whistle they are going to get a treat. They manage to get out once in a while. It works best with the Beagle as they are real chow hounds.
If you think you can handle a bigger dog the APBT is better with kids. I have seen mine lay on the floor with my baby grandson for hours. She lets him play with her ears while she licks his toes.

Beagles tend to make horrible in home pets. They are hunting dogs. They are very hyper. For this reason, beagles have the highest abandon rate at shelters and rescues.
Beagles love kids, but can be a bit rough with them.
Please, do a lot of research before getting a beagle.

Beagles are not vicious at all! However, they are primarily hunting dogs, used for rabbit hunting! They will usually bark pretty much, but you may be able to train them not to!
Beagles also need a little space to run, not as much as some breeds, but some outside running!!!!
Not familiar with the Welsh Corgi for a comparison!

they are very good with kids. One of the best breeds for kids. They are rather hard to housebreak though and you need to teach them the recall very well or they will take off on you and you wont be able to catch them.
My uncle has beagles and kids together. They are great kids dogs as long as the kids know how to treat a dog.
Corgies are MEAN. All the corgies I know will snap at your heels as you walk. They are not good for kids.

Beagles are great outdoor dogs, not so good indoors. They`re good with kids, generally, but tend to bark or howl a great deal. If you have close neighbors, you may want to look at other breeds.

My first pet dog was a Beagle. They are great pets especially around kids but they need lots of outside time and attention.

Beagles can be good dogs or bad dogs. Depends what you mean by good. Any breed of dogs can have grumpy, or mean tempered or patient qualities, varies by the indivdual dog. Don't just get a dog because of the breed, make sure its individual personality fits with what you are looking for.

beagles are good pets, but they are stubborn! its not very easy to train a beagle. I would suggest a yorkshire because they are good with kids, but they might shed. also, yorkies are very sweet, and also very small!
