If you leave the dog outside, where it is hot, it is natural for a dog to dig down into the dirt where it is cooler..... pleeeeease be sure your dog has FRESH WATER EVERY DAY and plenty of it....NEVER RUN OUT OF WATER and if possible let her have a cool spot in the shade, during the hottest part of the day. Perhaps you can put a table over the "spot" where you will "allow" her to dig. You really can't and shouldn't stop the dog from digging at least one spot to be cool. Look at it from the dog's point of view..... it's hot and if you don't do anything for her, then she has to do it herself.

Water, food, shade and love = daily requirements for dogs in summer.

Dogs dig holes and participate in other destructive behavior because they are bored. You need to exercise her more and give her toys to play with and chew. You didn't say what kind of dog you have but I suspect its a high energy one, or a working dog that is keeping its mind busy by digging. Exercise the poor thing!

Addiitonally, if its hot the dog may be digging to lie in the cool dirt. Put an old kiddie pool out in the yard in a shady spot for her to use.

LOL....try putting out a small childrens swimming pool.

or why is she digging? Is she alone all the time?

is it hot and there is no place to cool herself? does she lay in the holes?

What kind of dog is she? And having her spayed will not stop hole digging!!!!

Give her more play time so she is tired and possible she won't dig.

is hard to break the habit....

what breed is she?? some breds were bred to dig up rodents in holes -as such digging is a natural behavoir you should have considered when selecting a breed...

otherwise digging is usually a sign of boredom - your dog may need more mental sitmulation - (obedience lessons and practice).. some dogs have very strong pack instinct and should not be left alone -
