Well, like everyone said, the best way is to straight ask her, but I doubt that's what you want to do. When talking to her, ask her what she did over the weekend, or what she does for fun, boyfriend will probably come up if there is one. Or you could try the old "your boyfriend is lucky" thing. Or if you wanna be stalker like you can check her relationship status on myspace or facebook.

Married or single? It makes a big difference. Let's say she is married. Her manor / demean toward you will change. She will treat you as if you are bothering her. She will be tiered for you no nether when you ask and she will have a dead ache. She will go out for no apparent reason maybe window shopping. If you look at her eyes and face she will look happy jet snap answers. If you ask her flat out she will jump at you with something like "don't you trust me I don't question you every time you go out". She will look you straight in the eyes jet they will have a far away look. Women is more complex in this way but above are some common ways. Hope this helps.

Well I agree with the others but they are not 100% accurate.
You can ask her if she has a boyfriend and she might say yes, when she really doesnt.
Either way she is saying she doesnt want to be your girlfriend. So ask and walk away, the answer may not be honest, but the result is the same.

If you are bold, you can ask her out and you should find out right away if she has one unless she is a flirt then you need to ask her friends if you know them
