On UFC.com there are articles about WEC but I haven't found anything about how they're related.

Like already said, Zuffa purchased WEC from their previous owners in California last year. Search the archives at sherdog.com and they have lots of articles about the purchase. WEC is to showcase the lighter weight classes, Zuffa has said their will not be a HW fight in WEC for a long time to come.

Zuffa, the parent company of the ufc, owns the wec. the ufc is trying to brand the wec as the new big company since pride is pretty much dead so no pride vs ufc.

The WEC was purchased by Zuffa, LLC - the company that owns UFC. They plan to showcase fighters of lower weight classes (155 & below) in the WEC.

No dinferce really the ufc rules are the exact same as the wec rules.
