Then either the shoes need to be locked up in a closet or the dog goes in a crate when you're not home. End of problem. :)

Dogs have been doing that since the dawn of time. Dogs aren't that smart to conspire to do something with malice against their owners. Anyone who owns a dog must resign him/herself to the fact that shoes are going to get chewed. It's the price of having a dog. If you really want to beat the love out of your dog he has for you then there's nothing to stop you. You'll one day come home and notice he didn't come running to greet you with joy that you're finally home. He will be hiding somewhere from you because he doesn't want you to punish him. You will have only taught him to be afraid of you. On the other hand, you can realize your dog is not a human child and doesn't understand you don't want him chewing on your shoes. You could always just keep the closet door closed with your shoes inside it where he can't get to them. Get him one of those leather bones dogs like to chew on instead of your shoes.

You need to make sure you don't leave any shoes where the dog can get to them. We had a sheltie who had an old sneaker for a playtoy as a pup. Needless to say, sneakers were his chew of choice...and after a few pairs of costly athlete endorsed models got eaten up, everybody here learned to put the things in the closets instead of leaving them out. Works like a charm!

My dog used to do it too. Tried spraying the shoes with bitter apple and even perfume to discourage him. Nothing works.
Only thing that u can do is keep the shoes away from his reach. In a shoe box or somewhere out so that he doesnt have access to them. Believe me he will grow out of this habit.

Put your shoes in the closet and shut the door. If you keep leaving your shoes out for him to chew, maybe you're the one who needs to be disciplined!

So either crate the dog while you are gone, or put shoes out of his reach.

That's fine - just put your shoes away. If he can't get at your shoes, he won't chew them. Replacing the shoes with bully sticks and rawhides, and stuffed Kongs, will also help - your dog needs things to chew on.

Put your shoes out of sight and replace them with chew toys for your dog.

confine him or put shoes away - don't give the dog rawhide when he's alone, though - they should never be unsupervised with treats like that as there is a risk they will choke on them. good luck!
