When I went off to college, I was SO homesick, I went home EVERY weekend, the 1st semester. (lame!) But in my 2nd semester, I met a lively, funny girl who introduced me to lots of interesting people.

Find out about your surroundings (use a map--I did!) and check the paper for what's going on (concerts, movies, and so on).

Soon, your parents will be asking "WHY don't you com home anymore???"

I get homesick all the time and I heared on the radio once that homesickness is actually a mental sickness. I have had it all my life and my friends never understood this and would always make fun of me. The one thing that helps me is that I know they will be there when I get back. What you can do is use the phone where ever you are and just say hi to whom ever you miss. I wish I knew how to help you better, I am sorry. I guess just hang in there and if it gets bad you can always leave, you are not obligated to stay.

Enjoy the time away from your cell phone first and foremost! I know it's difficult to imagine, but I absolutely loved not having mine on for 7 days during our last vacation. (oh, and put a message on your voicemail that you're away, otherwise you'll end up with a full mailbox, plus that way you won't feel like you have to check it all the time...)

And stay busy...make new friends, see all of the sites, eat lots of good food. Also, take lots of pictures to show everyone back home...

When I'm homesick I usually think of other things rather than home. Sometimes everything I do would always remind me of the things me and my siblings always do so when it was time for me to go to college it was heartbreaking. I managed to shrug it off me by diverting my attention to other things. I played sports, hang out with friends most of the time and tried myself to limit my calls to them to at least once a week so that i won't get to be so down thinking I haven't been with them for the week. And i make it sure it would just be short calls.. I made myself busy doing scrapbooks, reading novels, surfing the net, eating a lot, sleeping.. i think what you really need is something to divert your attention.. Good Luck!

When I was 18 I went to basic training. No cell phones, no nothing for 9 weeks. Though we did get to call our families eventually it felt like forever. Staying busy and staying focused on whatever you're doing at the moment. Also, try to make as many new friends as you can where you're going.

Look at the bright side it,s only for a week and you,ll be home to see them again.Remind yourself that other people don,t get to see their loved ones for months or years.Keep busy, meet new people, stay in touch and think of it as an adventure and a break from home for awhile.Think of the things that you don,t enjoy at home like chores ect Being away from it all for a week will seem like a relief for awhile before you get back to the old routine.

if you can, write letters home or to friends. if you cant write home, then keep a journal and write as often as you want. also, if you can think of it this way: if you weren't homesick, would you be having a good time? if the answer is yes, then try to enjoy yourself as much as you can. if you can't do anything about being where you are, just do your best to get through it
