I was diagnosed with schizophrenia and major depression 10 years ago. I didn't want to live anymore because it was too painful. Then I went into the hospital and tried several types of medication. It took me about 5 years to find the right medication and today I have no symptoms of either illness. I still get my ups and downs but nothing traumatic like before. I take a lot of medication - Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Abilify and Ativan. Together they enable me to live a happy life. I drive again and do everything I enjoy just like a normal person. There is a great book out called "Real Magic" by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer. It teaches how to be happy, successful, healthy and prosperous in daily life through positive thinking. It did wonders for me and I hope you will read it. Good Luck!

Many people with depression feel this way. You know, depression is like many illnesses. For example, diabetes cannot be cured, high blood pressure cannot be cured. However, these illnesses with medications can go into remission and stay there.
This is why medications exist. If you think about older times, going way back then you know depressed people were much worse off. There way no such thing as medication.
In fact, often depressed people were thought to be lazy, weak. They were told just "snap out of it."
We now know there is no such thing as "snapping out of it." Suicide is no answer for a chemical imbalance of the brain. That is what depression is. Have you tried antidepressants?
You tell people you have some goals and aspirations, that you really do want to make something of these ambitions.
If this is the case then there is your answer.
If you were truly at the end, completely despondent, having goals would not occur to you.
Sure you are fed up, frustrated and sick and tired of feeling so bad. Please get some help. These are not medieval times.
We have so much more an understanding of what depression is and how to fight it. Join in the fight. Depression can be something that once it is alleviated, it can remain in remission for good.
Remission can be as good as cured...
This is what you want, right?.

There is hope, and I am no psychologist, but I struggle with depression as well, and have found little ways of overcoming. First of all identify the source of your depression. Honestly, I wasn't eating right, with a more balanced diet, I am much less moody, I also take vitamins and drink a protein drink in the morning. A lot of my depression comes from my past of being a victim, understanding all of that has helped me to grow.
Second, take time to enjoy a few of your pleasures. I eat a small piece of chocolate or a pop tart every morning, and so I have something to look forward to every time I wake up. One really easy thing to do is use these rewards to enforce your own good behavior.
Thirdly activity, I cannot tell you how much it has helped me to just ride my bike 2 miles every week. try to get out, and avoid being isolated which often makes depression worse. One thing to know, everyone is fighting a battle, if you cannot honestly help how you feel, take small steps.
Consider making small goals for yourself.
Even if you are not a religious person, consider attending a place of worship, often people of religion are very helpful.
Fourthly, develop an Identity, what is it about you that you love, and what else do you want to be, constantly remind yourself of this, honestly I took some poster board and wrote it up on the wall.
Fifth I suggest writing, even blogging. I use a lot of creativity to express emotion but to hide meaning, and people enjoy viewing my work which gives me a sence of accomplishment.
I could keep on going for a while, but if you need more advice, I will give all that I have, e-mail me xeliphias@yahoo.com

Hello Harambasa. Nowadays there are various treatments/meds to reduce the symptoms of mental illnesses (such as helplessness, insecurities, no interested in doing anything). With therapy you can diminish the fear that you describe. You will be able to be like the people that you now. With proper treatment and therapy you will be able to have a pretty normal life. Do not fall in that cycle. Will power is really important to get out. Focus on your goals and aspirations. Imagine yourself being succesful. Argentox2@yahoo.com

who says it can't be cured? As a matter of fact most depression can be cured or overcome. Just excercising everyday by itself has been shown to help with depression, sometimes dramatically. There are councling groups and programs available, peer groups to help. and in some cases, medication to help you get things back under control. Remember too that most people have depression at least once, and often several times in their life. I had it bad. I was injured in the line of duty and forced to take a medical retirement. I felt like my whole world fell apart. Then financial problems cropped up, I felt like I was letting my family down, the whole ball of wax. Once I healed physically, I started lifting weights again, and walking to build my stamina back up, I finally got my finances straight, found other work to enjoy, made more new friends, and got on with a great life.

Reading your question was actually very intense... I get what your saying all to well, because it is a question that i ponder on a daily basis.
What helps me keep going is my son. You got to find something and grab a hold of it... This"little something" will lift your spirits just enough to keep you surviving .....
Depression can feel hopeless at times, and especially when the stress mounts and everything snowballs.... Medication helps take the edge off, so do therapy. There is light at the end of the tunnel, even if it is only a very dim light.

depression is just a state of mind. learn to get out of it.
try to hang out with friends everyday and that might cure everything.
if not, eat sugar.
smile for hours [supposed to release something into your brain, endorphins i think. >.>]
do positive things.
and give up insecurities and hold onto those goals.
you're gonna need them.
