What is the best way to go about doing this? It was suggested to hang some sort of light from my dock shining into the water to attract bugs and ultimately bait fish...and then walleye....Is this effective? The bait I primarily use to catch walleye is a jigg/black twister tail combo. Any insight/suggestions?

I'm guessing from the comment," hang some sort of light from my dock", you will be shore fishing?

If you are bank-fishing for Walleye at night I would suggest either using a lighted cork W/ live shiner or Leech OR use your Jig but with a Berkley "Gulp" or "Power-bait" 4" black grub or "Leech", (for extra "fish calling" capability's add a "Jig Spinner" to your plain 'ole jig!). Try jigging with a live Leech !

Also, a wide "wobble" floating/suspending hard plastic lure like a suspending Rapala or Yozuri "Crystal Minnow" would work well too.

Get some "Dr. Juice" Walleye fish attractant to spray on all your lures.

Remember that fish use their "lateral line" and "noses" more at night!

Good luck!

Do this in Minnesota and your buying yourself a fine, using a light for fishing.

If you must fish Walleye at night you do it the same way as in the daytime. You colored lures loose their color after about thirty feet, they look the same then.
I always use crawler harnesses and large night crawlers. Leeches can be used also.
