"You see some classes of the human family that are black, uncouth, uncomely, disagreeable and low in their habits, wild, and seemingly deprived of nearly all the blessings of the intelligence that is generally bestowed upon mankind. The first man that committed the odious crime of killing one of his brethren will be cursed the longest of any one of the children of Adam. Cain slew his brother. Cain might have been killed, and that would have put a termination to that line of human beings. This was not to be, and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the flat nose and black skin. Trace mankind down to after the flood, and then another curse is pronounced upon the same race -- that they should be the "servant of servants;" and they will be, until that curse is removed." - Brigham Young, President and second 'Prophet' of the Mormon Church, 1844-1877 - Quotation from Journal of Discourses
"Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God is death on the spot. This will always be so." - Brigham Young, President and second 'Prophet' of the Mormon Church, 1863, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 10, p. 110./

"Follow the prophet, he will never lead you astray..." is what I remember the most about the lds doctrine of "Do it MY way, buster". This goes for the General Authorities too. They cannot speak for the church if it not God's word.
Thousands and thousand of mormons heard or read the words of Young, Benson, McConkie and JF Smith. and none of them questioned the veracity of morality of those racist rantings and diabolic diatribes.
The fact than most mormons either don't know about it, or don't think it important enough to correct, retract and apologize for makes them complicit in all this. Their complacency with church writings renders them as guilty as the authors of this horrid and repugnant "doctrine".
It remains a 'black eye' for the church and all those who support this attitude by submitting to it like asinine sheep. It is the failure of the members for letting these men 'do their thinking for them.."

Who says that we HAVE to follow your interpretation of what a long past prophet said? Because that's what this is, YOUR interpretation of a few snippets of a speech from about 150 years ago.
It's not in our scriptures.
Did you read the rest of that first quote? Here it is.
<>
Did you read the part before it? Here that is:

THAT does not sound racist to me. In fact, it sounds ANTI-racist.
What about the second quote? Do you know the background? Back in the 19th century, it was against the law for blacks and whites to marry. So, he could not have been talking about marriage. Who is he talking to? The "white man who belongs to the chosen seed". How, if they didn't marry, did this white man mix his blood with teh seed of Cain? Didn't you ever read those books on slavery? Thomas Jefferson and Sally what's her name? Hemmings or something. The penalty was death for who? the white man. Under WHAT? GOD'S law. We don't live under God's law, we live under man's law.

How many Mormons do you know? ALL of the Mormons you know are all racist, right? You know 50 Mormons? All 50 are racist? Maybe 20? all 20 are racist?

Mormons aren't generally racists, but humans are often racists.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is growing all over the planet earth ... especially where people are brown.
As the church has grown, it has become more friendly to racially diverse populations. This is true of almost every Christian church.
Is there anyone here that can't remember how racist the Southern Baptists have been throughout the history of the United States? Has anyone read historybooks about brown bishops and cardinals in the Catholic Church a hundred years ago? And what about those Ulster Scots (Protestant) and Irish (Catholic)? Or the Serbs, Croats and Albanians (Catholic, Orthodox and Muslim)?
When it comes to religion, it is all about us and them. Race has always been one of the easiest ways to identify them. I don't see any reason to pick on Mormons.

actual, all of us used to racist earlier the 60's. For some reason, the actuality that Mormons have been too made them terrible human beings and nonetheless racist today. It does not make experience, although that's actual.

What you did not point out is that the curse of Cain HAS been removed.
Official Declaration 2 - http://scriptures.lds.org/en/od/2
Added: To have a belief about the origins of a race is not the same as being racist. Many people believe that black skin is an evolutionary protection against the sun... This implies that white people are less evolved (less able to survive) than black people.
Mormons were staunchly opposed to black (or other) slavery during a time when it was NOT cool to support the equal rights of black people?
Mormons are not racist.

IT IS A DIFFERENT JESUS they worship....Because they listened to Joseph Smith and Not the unadulterated Word of God and don't realize that it was Canaan and Not Ham that was cursed by Noah and not God in Genesis Chapters 9-10! That curse was applied to Canaan alone, not his children and children's children for generations ad infinitum! They added myth to the Scriptures Revelation 22. The biggest error is that they have declared themselves to be God and can decide which wife can go to heaven with them! Their sin is the same as that of the devil in Isaiah 14:13-15.

Using 150 year old quotes are not evidence of racism. They aren't racist. Gladys Knight of Gladys Knight and the Pips is a Mormon. I have other friends that are black that are Mormon. Many of their leaders are black. Do you have anything more current that shows a systematic and continuous pattern of racism? I think this would be better evidence. Otherwise, it is an argument that sounds good but really carries little weight.

Wow, this piece of information is incredible!
If this is true then here are my thoughts
St. John 3: 16 John 3:16 (King James Version)
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
2Galatians 3:6For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
27For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
28There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
I think I prefer the God of the Bible-the only true God- any day to that of the Mormons. Suddenly the Bible seems more appealing than anything else.
Anyway, being a black Christian person myself and might i say really proud, i am simply extending a hand of sympathy to all you Mormons out there who truely believe the statement to which i am answering. Jesus loves you anyway and its really sad that you hold this concept to be true but i guess, if you really open your hearts then the true light of salvation will shine through. I hope you will, I truly hope you will.....
2 Corinthians 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
God bless you all
