If so, what problems specifically?
If not, why not?
Why should a person feel compelled to abandon the Greek gods, or the Egyptian gods, or the Viking gods, or the four winds in favor of Allah, or Yahweh, or Jesus Christ?
Humanity faces the same fundamental problems today with its "new gods" as it did 3000 years ago with the old gods.
Nothing has been solved, so why the change?

NO! Contemporary monotheism created enormous problems that polytheistic societies didn't have, like slaughtering thousands who had the audacity to believe in a different deity than you follow. This invites wars, and there have been so many wars fought in the name of someone's god, it is pathetic.
The other HUGE problem that monotheism has created is that, by nature, monotheism means one deity, and unfortunately for females throughout the centuries., the primary deity has been EXCLUSIVELY MALE! I don't give a s*** if people give lip service to the claim that their "god" is both genders, or can be either gender...that is a lot of crap! They ALWAYS refer to their god as male, don't they? This excludes females from the divine in a big way, and has resulted in the oppression of women in ENORMOUS ways, so many I can't begin to go into it all here.
Monotheism got us religious wars, it got us sexism, it got us misogyny. It has been HORRIBLE for the advancement of the HUMAN race.

Actually, contemporary monotheism did solve problems but its solutions were no better than the others except in one area and that is the area of self-serving popularity. Judaism, Christianity and Islam all had some rather good ad campaigns and slogans; in addition, they were adept at keeping the followers they gained and set themselves up as a somewhat effective unofficial authority over the people - all people.

None of the problems addressed by these popular religions did a heap of good for the world in general, in fact they have caused a great deal of difference and harm, but for each individual sect of monotheism there was a wealth of selfish gain.

I would say that Trinitarians (non-Unitarians) are polytheists. They have a heavenly god, a man like god and a spirit which flies back and forth. And many, many saints and mother figures.
Ancient polytheists were probably more tolerant of others beliefs. Another person had their own set of gods, they just happened not to be mine.
Some say the Commandment, "Thou shall have no gods before Me" is a bow to the polytheistic society. Moses was not out to covert the whole world.
Mainly, it is the same tenets (Thou shall not kill, etc.) with different characters.

It allowed rich people to get richer and people in positions of power to have more power. But as far as a benefit for the majority of people, not much. In fact if there is benefit for the majority at all, it's vastly outweighed by the benefit for the minority or the elite in societies.

It facilitated the centralization of power.
If one views the human race as something inherently evil to be controlled, I suppose one could argue that ths was a problem solved, at least to the extent that it succeeded.

Yes!
I wondered about that for years!
The pressure to "convert" is fear, people fear what they don't understand.
People fail to see that polytheists and monotheists have more in common than not.
Notice how pagans aren't constantly trying to "convert" other people . . . . . People should follow the path that speaks to them, not what is popular.
Let's all live and let live!
