Read Ezekiel 18...
God presents a hypothetical family to teach that children are not held responsible for parents' sins and also the reverse, parents for the child's sin. In the discussion, we see this:
Eze 18:21 “But suppose a sinful person turns away from all of the sins he has committed. And he keeps all my rules. He does what is fair and right. Then you can be sure he will live. He will not die. 22 None of the sins he has committed will be held against him. Because of the godly things he has done, he will live.
23 “When sinful people die, it does not give me any joy,” announces the LORD and King. “But when they turn away from their sins and live, that makes me very happy.
... and from 1John:
1John 1:6 Suppose we say that we share life with God but still walk in the darkness. Then we are lying. We are not living by the truth. 7 But suppose we walk in the light, just as he is in the light. Then we share life with one another. And the blood of Jesus, his Son, makes us pure from all sin.
8 Suppose we claim we are without sin. Then we are fooling ourselves. The truth is not in us. 9 But God is faithful and fair. If we admit that we have sinned, he will forgive us our sins. He will forgive every wrong thing we have done. He will make us pure. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar. His word has no place in our lives.
Both of these tell us that if our focus is on serving God and living the way he wants, he will forgive our past.

I went through the same thing when my father died. I was 16 and my sister was 9 at the time, so there wasn't much I could do then. When I was old enough, I tried by contacting my local Department of Child and Family Services. Calling them would be the best bet, especially since the welfare of your brother is at stake. If they decide to do something, than you may have a chance. The first step in child custody is your brother's safety. If they do not find any cause, than you may not have a chance. I would personally try as hard as I can to be there for your brother. As long as he feels he has someone to support him, he will know he is loved. I also believe that there is no way you had anything to do with your father's death. He killed himself, not you. There had to have been something wrong for awhile. People get sick and he handled it the wrong way. Do not let that bring you down, you are a good person that cares enough for his brother before himself. The important part now is your brother and you have been good brother so far.

Dear Sister in the Lord, Your story touches my heart and I *know* that it touches the heart of God, the Father, and the Heart of His Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior! Let me start out by stating, flat out, that: NO, you will *not* go to hell for what you have done! I state this unequivocally - absolutely *NOT*! I do not know any American-born Christian who *really* has *any* idea what you have had to go through; but our Heavenly Father certainly *does*!
The absolutely, *only*, unforgivable sin which one can commit is the sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit! You did *not* blaspheme against Him! Here are the words of our Lord Jesus about this matter: "And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come." Matthew 12:31,32 (NIV) You did *not* blaspheme against* the Holy Spirit!
Yes, you were sick and coughed and the Muslims heard you and discovered your family and you. That was *not* your fault; you did *not* cause your father and brothers to die! Yes, your father and brothers refused to renounce Jesus and convert to the false religion of Islam and they were murdered for their faithfulness to Jesus. Yes, you didn't refuse because you didn't want to die; but you were ill, and thus weak in body and (your) spirit. You were also young and confessed Allah with your mouth; but did you actually believe in him in your heart? I cannot explain why, even though your mother and sister refused to convert to Islam, they were not killed; but I *am* sure that God had His angels protecting them and protecting you!
I do not know what denomination of church (Catholic, Lutheran, Orthodox, Methodist, etc.) the people who have told you this belong to; but whoever has told you this very unbiblical "fact" is *absolutely* wrong and the statement is *absolutely* false! Are you sure these people who told you this were Christians? Just because a person attends or even *belongs* to a church does not necessarily mean that person is a Christian; that same thinking could mean that if someone spent a lot of time in an automobile showroom, he can just be assumed to be a automobile salesman. Or if someone spent day after day in a library, she has become a librarian. Christians are people who are born again, have accepted Jesus' blood sacrifice on the Cross, confessed their sins to God, and have accepted Jesus as personal Lord and Savior of their lives. Christians also study to show themselves approved, rightly dividing the word of truth, which is the Holy Bible. (This statement is not an exact word-for-word quotation; but one from my memory, and probably more the wording of the KJV Bible than that of the New International Version.) I do not believe that any pentecostal, evangelical Christian would ever say anything like this to you or about you! Remember, our Lord also said, "Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them." Matthew 7:20(NIV)
If you want to discuss this matter further, you may contact me through Yahoo!7 Answers via e-mail. I am praying for you!

Something unimaginably awful has happened to you in your young life and you must think deeply and clearly to get past it.
Your family members weren't killed because you coughed;
you coughed because of a God-given reflex when we're sick. Your father and brothers died because they were brave, and your mother and sister were brave, but did not die. No human on this earth can explain why that happened. You experienced horrible brutality and fear and grief and so you momentarily turned inward to think of your own safety -- a reaction as natural as any other reaction you could have had at that precise moment.
But remember, God is in your life in the first place so He can
help you deal with this terrible thing and no one else knows how God feels about it. That's between Him and you.
You are a very brave young person to try to take all this upon yourself. And you should be admired, considering all the pain you are carrying around, for still fighting to deal with it and to make a future for yourself.
Now put yourself totally, and I mean totally, in God's hands, and be grateful for His love. As time passes, things will get better and better for you and your mother and sister, and in heaven your father and brothers are being well taken care of.

First, it was NOT your fault that they were killed. I know that you blame yourself, but you truly should not. Second, the "church" people who told you that you are going to hell are sick, twisted people who will have their own problems getting into heaven because of what they are doing to you. Third, many people change religious beliefs throughout their lives. These are their personal relationships with their creator. It does not constitute blasphemy. In your case, you did not truly change your beliefs. You said something that you did not believe in order to stay alive. I say, Good For You. Find a new church and get away from these sick, twisted, so-called christians who can not find the love of God in their hearts to support you.

I think God understands you were 16 years old and these were extenuating circumstances. No matter what anyone else tells you, know that our God is a forgiving God. If your Church isn't telling you this, than find a new Church to attend. Here in America you have the RIGHT to choose your religion and church.
Also I can see why you feel guilty for coughing but you can't continue to blame yourself for your family's murder. You didn't cause their deaths, the monsters who killed them did.
I'm sad to hear your mother and sister stayed behind but I am glad to know you made it to our country. God bless you and I wish you the best. This is why America was created, to give freedom and homes to those in search of them.

Jesus understands if you were afraid and traumatized by what was going on.
After all your only a child and cannot be held accountable for your actions.
If those Holier than Thou Christians want to condemn you because of what you did then tell them to walk a mile in your shoes and see how brave they are.
It's so easy to say to someone that what they did was wrong just to make oneself feel better about their own mistakes.
I'm very sorry that your father died and I'm sorry you had to witness all of that while still so young.
Your sorry and you made a mistake and being a Christian your already forgiven for your sins anyway because your a descendant of Jesus who died taking all of your sins with him.
Jesus loves you very very much and wouldn't want you to ever think that he doesn't because you were forced to make a mistake out of fear.
So please don't listen to anyone who tries to tell you differently and if they do try and make you feel bad then stop going around them, find other Christians to go around who will love you and accept you the way their supposed to.
I hope your safe now and everything is alright with you and your family.
God bless you my sister and may peace and joy be with you always.

And they still say that Islam is "a peaceful religion".. because they don't know what happens in nations where Muslims are a majority!
Anyway, don't worry about going to hell:
If you haven't done that yet, you should accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. For instance:
http://www.greatcom.org/english/four.htm
Anyway, you did wrong, yes; but if you are truly repented of having rejected Jesus, then go towards God and ask Him forgiveness, and He will surely forgive you (see 1 John 1:9).
Also repent of having embracing another religion, and any prayer/confession you may have done because of the death threat.
Regarding the fact that you cough; it wasn't on purpose; then if you have already done what I have stated above (received Jesus Christ and asking forgiveness), then don't worry about that. God will not condemn you for that, therefore forgive yourself!
By the way, you may need to find another church, one which is not as legalistic.
Hope this helps.

Peter denied Christ 3 times in the space of about a couple hours. Peter is not in hell. You didn't really convert to Islam. You know and believe the gospel of Jesus Christ (I assume). It is not your fault that you had to cough at a bad time. When we are saved, God forgives ALL our sin and He knows all the sins we're going to commit in the future when He saves us. You are in a bad church. Thank God you are now safe in America. Find a Bible-believing church. I recommend Baptist. Some of them are bad also but keep looking until you find the right one. Ask God to guide you to a good church. You have probably asked God to forgive you many times for denying Him, but if you haven't, you should. Christians fail God a lot. He knows we are weak. He loves you. I'll pray for you.

Peter denied Jesus three times - yet later became one of the founding rocks of Christianity.
Repentance comes from the heart - your heart. Not the heart of the judgemental person at Church who thinks they'll make themselves look better in front of God by denouncing others.
Oh, and let me add, that you weren't the one who held the gun to your fallen brethren - it's not your fault they died, you didn't pull the trigger or make that decision. I'm sorry you had to have such an awful experience in this lifetime.

First let me say it is not your fault that your father and brothers were killed. They had a choice as did the men who killed them. As for whether you are going to hell only God can know. He knows your heart now and knew your heart then. Here are some passages. I believe that if you confess Jesus as saviour right now than Jesus will confess you before God. Don't give up hope. Search the scriptures yourself. Try this. Look up the word blasphemy on www.dictionary.com look it up in www.biblegateway.com look up confess as well. Check out what the Bible says. Denouncing Jesus IS forgivable. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is unforgivable. Finally. NOONE can tell you for sure you are going to Hell. They can not see your heart and do not know Gods plan.
Matthew 12:30-32
30He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
31Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
32And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
read John 12:42-48
I think God knew that there would be those who would face the choice to deny Jesus as Saviour or die. It is a hard choice to face. My prayers are with you.
