Believing in a God is the same as believing in the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, Ra, Thor, Allah, Santa Clause, etc. "If one person suffers from a delusion, then that person is considered crazy. If many people suffer from a delusion, it's called religion."

Here is the quote. "When one person suffers from a delusion, it is called insanity. When many people suffer from a delusion it is called Religion."
This if from Robert M. Pirsig, author of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

Also keep in mind religion is man made. No evidence has ever been presented to validate that their is a god. Even to have faith, comes from man without evidence in of a God. Also, what is incomprehensible cannot be defined with the word God.

More notes to ponder. Jesus never claimed to perform miracles or even be the son of god. Only his disciples made this claim after his death.

Just show them the facts, and let them come up with their own conclusions.

You can't convince them anymore than they can convince you that God exists. Personally, it makes no difference in my life if people believe that the Easter Bunny, Santa, the Tooth Fairy or God exists. It is when they try to force me to believe that we run into a problem. I want others to let me follow my path in peace and they are welcome to do the same.

there is no 'best way' in that you cannot make a believer a non believer. they must come to this conclusion on their own, through examination of their faith. telling them they suffer from delusions just serves to strengthen their faith. in the end, if one puts faith through the rigors of scrutiny, one is left with the truth, which any atheist knows all too well.

I like your quote, who is it by? The fact that their delusion is religious in nature means that you have zero chance of changing their mind. Do you realize that 3 of the alternatives you gave are actually the same thing?

telling them that is the very worst thing to do i think, they just dig in harder. how do you react when you're told that you're being decieved by satan? i think it would be better if everyone would drop the mind games.
"Jesus was an actual historical figure. Santa, of course, is not."
no, but saint nicholas was an actual historical figure:

saint nicholas is to santa as the historical jesus is to ...?

Unless it is your family members, why bother. You can talk logic until you are blue in the face, but they don't have to accept anything but their very own tooth fairy.

People like you get on my nerves. What the hell is it to you what someone believes in or doesn't believe in???? Who appointed YOU the belief police???
Maybe you just need to believe (or not believe) whatever the hell you choose to and let others do the same.

While it is fun to debate here, you may as well bash your head in with a rock. You would have abetter chance of converting anyone, unfortunately.
