It depends on what clothes your are wearing I guess and how old you are. I know some young girls like to go out in revealing clothes and are just asking for trouble. Is that why your parents tell you what clothes to wear? If so, they are just trying to protect you because they know what can happen to you if you go out looking "easy."

Show them that you are responsible and if that dont work,
save up enough money to be able to get your own apartment when ready. but in the mean time, show your responsible and do the best you know how to be but some parents can go to far. A lot of the times there are reasons why parents are so hard on children because most children dont understand Life and how hard it is. Its important, to have a good partner, education and be independent. So when challenges come in your life, you have a better chance of working problems away. I hope life gets better for you.

This is a funny one for me, I mean "IRONIC", since NORMALLY, I would tell your parents to back off in no uncertain terms! What you wear, unless it's something like a KKK sheet, is NONE of their business!

But this weekend, my kid was going to a bluegrass (not his choice, just to hang w/his cousin, whose mom plays terrible fiddle music!) festival in Northern NH.

After looking at some of the pics from where he was staying, I remembered that even in New England, there are Rednecks who think "tolerance" means how much booze you can drink!

My kids' alternative style (he's in a punk band) would NOT go over well with some of these types. I counseled him NOT to wear skin-tight, stretch jeans and "Hello Kitty" pink shirts up there! He flipped, I explained and explained again and he relented.

Anyway, SOMETIMES, parents want to "control" or "advise" you for your own good, because THEY (imagine!) know something YOU don't!

Other times, sadly, they just want to control you because they're screwed up! Sadly, that's MORE common! If that's the case, tell them to buzz off or you'll run away (parents DREAD that!...well MOST of them do!).

If they don't give in, ask for help from a trusted adult, like their clergy guy, a teacher or older relative. If not, tough it out, like I did in the '60's and blast outta there as soon as you're 18!!!

Talk to them. Tell them how you feel about this, and then SHOW them that you're capable of making some of your own decisions. Give them a reason to want to give you your responsibilities. They're probably not trying to control you... they just want to hold onto that piece of your childhood for a little longer. Try and understand that before you get angry. When you talk to them, be calm and rational. If you're calm about it and you present a good argument, then they will be more likely to listen to you.

they love you and they don't want to see you dressing like other teens ... maybe talk to your parents and ask them to let you chose what clothes you buy ... you didn't say how old you were so ... I would go with talking to them.
