Depending on the diet you feed it, depends on the life span. Seed diet only it will live about 4-6 yrs. Seed diet with other foods 10-12 yrs.
Personally i have one that is 28 yrs old and i hatched it myself from a chick. It has eaten everything i have eaten since i weaned it. His favorite is mashed potatoes, LOL.

There are different opinions on the life span of parakeets, some people say they can live up to 14 or 15 years. In my own experience about 8 or 9 years has been the norm.
To keep a parakeet happy all you need to provide is plenty of room, some mirrors, and a chance to fly once a day. Also, they love fresh veggies, especially lettuce and the leafy green tops on carrots.
If you have any more questions I will be happy to try and help. Good luck with your pet!

Parakeets who are fed a pellet, fruit, and veggie diet will live about 15-20 yrs. Parakeets that eat seeds only live 3-6 years due to malnutrition and tumors due to seed only diets.
