Jesus thought they should be able to heal the sick if they had faith. Why aren't christians following Jesus's teachings? The apostles weren't Gods, but were expected to heal people.Would not Jesus expect his followers to do the same?

The apostles were no different than us. If they were expected to heal why can't christians do it today?

eyelovesjesus: Hi, you did cite one person out of 4 billion. I don't think we can call this a trend.

within minutes of posting this question I was called an atheist. Why can't believers, like myself, come together and discuss a topic without resorting to name calling? Thats a Christian attitude?

Personally, I know many people who feel that the bible is all about teaching "us" that we have the capacity to heal others and to heal ourselves in the process. As a reiki (universal energy) practitioner at the Master Teacher level, I haved believed for a long time, that we have the ability to "know when something is wrong with us, and help facilitate healing within ourselves and others. I believe that this was given to us at birth, but as we grew older, many have lost the capacity to access such gifts.

Hello monte54que.. :)

We still do heal the sick and raise the dead..

You just do not hear it with all of the violence and tragedy's..we have in this world.. :(

Did you hear about An African Preacher who was raised from the dead after 3 days..he also had formaldehyde in his body..His wife and Church prayed and fasted.. :)

He is still alive and well living in Africa..they have a movie showing the Pastor coming back to life.. :)

If you want, I can try and get it for you.. :)

In Jesus Most Precious Name..
With Love..In Christ.. :)

We aren't the Healer. We do lay hands on the sick and pray for them. I was healed of the constant all the time, every day pain I had in my knees after 4 knee surgeries. I know people who have been healed and I know others that have been prayed for many times and not been healed. God does still heal!!!!

It's like going to a magic show and hearing all kinds of history about Houdini and the tricks he did but with no actual magic isn't it.

"All these things you have seen me do you can do also, and greater."

Children of God heal the world all the time. I hope the vocal Christians that deny the power of God and judge others join us and stop judging.

♥Blessed Be♥

You answered your own question. Jesus told the guys sitting right there in front of him to go out in the world and heal the sick. That command wasn't given to you and me. It was given to those guys back then. They did it and it worked well.

If I was given the power to do it, I would. But the bible also says that those "gifts of the holy spirit" would eventually fade or go away.
And the point of JC's coming to earth wasn't exactly to heal a few people and perform magic tricks - his miracles were to prove that he was God's son and to get people to listen to him preach.

Wait, do band-aids and Neosporin count?

Do you have any idea how many Christian religion-affiliated hospitals there are??? I thought not. ( No, I don't know either but there's at least a Catholic-affiliated hospital in every mid-size or better city I know of. Not to mention other denominations.)

I think "sick" has a lot of meanings, in this world. Lots of people are trying to heal the "sick" as they know it.

We are. Just look at the hospitals - the doctors and nurses -- University research -- information about living healthy.

Hey -- they are not all Christian.

Notice that it's not one of the convenient rules?
It's more much more easier to stay here and fight gay marriage and such, rather than going out and doing actual things that will HELP society.
