I believe it is because people don't want to be held accountable for there actions. No one wants to be told how to live. They let their pride get in the way. But I would like to get some feed back from people and find out the feelings of others.

All through the old and new Testaments, predestination is explained. Most Christians don't like the doctrine, but it is God's Word, not mine. Calvinist see it as Gods sovereignty at work, others see it as God looking down the halls of time and picking those who would pick Him. Either way, there are some who will not respond to the gospel message.

The Bible says, no man comes to the Son unless the Father sends him, and no man goes to the Father, unless he goes through the Son. So if you are tring to, " save, or bring someone to Christ, " you may be fighting a losing battle. Those are the jobs of Jesus, and God the Father. Your job is to spread the word of the coming Kingdom of God, and the good news of Jesus Christ, our Lord and savior. If the person or persons respond to it, then they were saved before the foundation of the world, and you had nothing to do with it, God alone does all the saving. If they don't respond, say thank you, and politely walk away. They are either not chosen, or its not their time.

God be with you,

Well, I don't believe in the Christian God if that's what you mean. But I do believe that there is a God. I just don't think God wants anything from us. Being omnipotent, why would he?

As for being accountable...we're held accountable for our actions down here already. And it has nothing to do with pride whatsoever.

Isn't it possible that two people can believe in opposite things and both be sincerely convinced they are correct??

I have two reasons:

1) I have come to realize that I don't need God in my life. I have asked him so many questions and I get no answer. So I have decided that god doesn't acknowledges me or there is no god.

Plus with so many religions and gods, isn't it obvious that god is just a man created idea to provide spiritual comfort.

2) I have a lot of people taken from me and I do not understand why. My grandfather for example, he was a very religious man in Guatemala.

He rewrote the bible from Spanish to his language, Tzutuhil.

But this was during the time of the civil war in Guatemala where there was a conflict with government. People who were for the old government started killing people left and right and my grandfather were one of those people.

So where was god when that happened, probably just watching the action and watching my grandpa dying and not doing a thing.

I think that the reason we dont believe is not because "people don't want to be held accountable for there actions".

I think that is really a stupid reason, so are you saying that because you have god to wipe your slate that makes you a better person?

Because I don't believe in God, I'll be held accountable for my actions; if I did believe in God, then God would be held accountable for my actions. What's wrong with not wanting to be told how to live? And what's wrong with pride?

Oh do grow up. Its because there is no evidence for any god. And I AM accountable for my actions. I take responsibility for everything I do, even if it hurts. I don't blace the blame on a god, or praise a god, for my actions. I realize that I have to deal with the people around me who can make me miserable if I make them miserable. THAT is accountability. Its not "I said the words 'oh god' as a swear and didn't feel sorry for it so I'm going to burn in hell for all eternity".

Time to pull your head out of the sand.

Btw... think about this a little... by your own account, you are doing the right thing just to avoid hell, not because its the right thing to do. Any god will know that and punish you. At least Atheists are doing the right thing just because its the right thing to do.

Bravo smells like pot. Bravo.

Those people that say "they don't want to take responsibility for their actions" had their slate wiped clean by having their Jesus take the blame for them. Thats called "taking responsibility" I take it. rofl...

perhaps most people don't *want* to be held accountable for their actions. some people however are able to recognise the *need* for everyone to be held accountable for their actions regardless of whether god exists or not, and to live their lives accordingly. i think it's a bit sad if you only behave because you're afraid of punishment in hell.

i don't believe in god simply because i see no reason to believe that it exists. i've heard a lot of arguments that many people apparently find convincing but i just can't fathom why they find them convincing, other than that they prefer it were so.

for the guy below me, i wonder how he knows he is not also decieved by satan if satan is so pervasive and powerful. presumably he relies on the bible, which he knows was not written by satan because... um... ?

Because we don't need a God. Once we've accepted life without some sort of superior being, life makes perfect sense. If anything, it's religious people who are the ones in need of all the answers. Scientists don't have all the answers. They don't claim to. The religious answer to everything is "God."

People have laws to follow, and their own morality. There's far more to be held accountable for than where you waste your time on a Sunday.

...or maybe it is because there is exactly zero evidence for any of the thousands of gods in human history.

"I believe it is because people don't want to be held accountable for there actions."

First, learn the difference between there and their. Second, are you seriously saying you are only good because you are afraid god will punish you? Because that would make you a rather poor example of a human being. Don't you have family, children, friends, a career, hope, dreams, you know, all the stuff you would lose IN JAIL? Because we have these things called laws? And customs? Ring a bell?

It appears the questioner Is another of the Mono-atheists that believes in the singular, no name, God.......May the Gods and Goddesses have mercy on his poor soul.

We are sorry for you in that you are one of those that don't want to be held accountable for there actions. We know you wish to tell others how to live. That you hate others for having pride.

Well, you have just received feed back .....

People don't believe in God cause they don't wanna betray their standards of knowledge. They can't just demand evidence to believe in the anything except when it comes to believing in God. It's not earnest. There isn't even a shred of real evidence that supports the existence of God, so the most reasonable is not to believe.
