People in NY are not cold or mean. They simply mind their own business. Unlike out here in California where many people are always in other peoples business and are extremely nosy!!!

To live here- You really have to have a hard outer shell. There are too many people who are acting mean, fast, and cold, or trying to scam others. You have to keep a guard up, even if you are the sweetest person on Earth. But once you get to know people here, or even just become familiar with them, you will see that there is almost always a nice person underneath that hard outer shell.
BTW-" i'm sure if i was dieing on the street most the people would walk by me w/o the blink of an eye"...........This statement kinda sums up the reason I have always prefered to live in Brooklyn- Manhattan is just too chaotic! Honestly, I know the feeling of never being dressed well enough for the city. You either have to find places where people are more low key, (ie- not Soho!) or come out to BK.

We're not cold, we have things to do, people to see.
We don't have time for a leisurely stroll down the street.
Life is fast and so are we.
We would use our cell phone and call an ambulance for you and be on our merry way!
Our lives are full and busy, we may dashing off for dinner and/or theater.
We may be going to a gallery opening of a new artist.
We may going to a small theater to see a new play by an up and coming playwright.
I don't know about style boldness, I am usally attired in Jeans.

we're not cold when people need help by all means we do help them. life in the city is not as slow like in other places we are always in the run and that's how we live.the best thing of manhattan is that there are so many different people that makes it living here amazing. there are people who don't want to be normal and they dress bold there is nothing wrong with that. you shouldn't feel out of place it's not like there is nobody who dresses casual here.

i bet you moved from a really good place. New york is a busy very swaggerlike place. Everyone dresses to impress && its ghetto. People are mean, and thats life. lol. You just have to adapt and realize this is a big world. Trust me i moved from upstate to texas, and these people are completely different from me. Everyone is plain and very preppy. But i stick out. =D thats not always a bad thing.

Not everyone but yeahh they're probably moving on or something. I know how you feel. It's like that sometimes here in Queens, too.

I pass 100,000 people on my short walk to work. You want me to stop and say hello to everyone? I guess you are just there visiting, but I live here and have to get to work. How many people do you wave to in your car when you drive to work in the burbs? Guess you are just cold too.

Same story in Paris and London. Huge cities make people cold and rich.

Don't take it personally.
Everyone in manhatten is on the move, heading to a direction and they don't feel like being bothered.
They're just busy.
And I love the style of manhatteners! :]

One on one they aren't cold per say as much as just focused. When you have that many people trying to get someplace, pleasantries are put on hold.
