Who said Christians hate Harry Potter? I'm Christian and love Harry Potter. It is an easy thing to "categorize" all people in one group. You just did, and that my friend can lead to misunderstanding.

God speaks strongly against witchcraft, which is the obvious reason why a lot of Christians don't approve of HP for their children. I finally read the books for myself, as I am an adult and have a firm grasp of reality and my own beliefs. I was more upset with the extreme mistrust of authority and disregard for the rules that is constantly happening with the 3 main heroes. I enjoy the books as fiction, but I wouldn't give them to kids.

I live with 2 young children, and I see how they simply imitate what they see. Their brains are not mature enough to make decisions about right and wrong. They have no understanding of the risks or consequences that are associated with their behavior. That means, as a parental type, we must monitor what it is that our kids are being exposed to. They could inadvertantly walk into a lot of trouble without a clue if they just copy what they see on tv. I would rather give my kids books about characters that possess the values that I would want my kids to learn.

Christians do not hate Harry? Man makes a big deal out of a statement. Consider the source. It starts at the root, man and is critics. How can one hat oe even care about sometime made up by a man that made a lot of money doing it I may added. I am not mad at him. It was most entertaining....but God is even more so.every time I look around at us. Psalms 103.

Wow, Christians don't like Harry Potter? Well, I guess my husband isn't going to be too happy about me throwing out all seven books, and the four movies we own.

And a little known fact: Joanne Rowling, better known as J.K. Rowling belongs to the Church of Scotland and holds Christian beliefs! Go figure.

I'm a Christian (LDS) and me and my family all love Harry Potter. It's a good allegory for co-operative heroism... which is rather a fundamental tennet of Christianity.

We all need every day heros. Harry Potter is very accessible. His special powers remind me of Christ... It reminds me of priesthood powers.

His courage to overcome personal opposition (in his family and also within himself) is inspiring.

You may be right about him being a better Christian than me, but I don't hate him for being an inspiring example - I love him!

I hate Harry Potter because the whole world is obsessed with him. The fact that there are adults who stood in line to get a wrist band to get a ticket to get a childrens book the first day it came out makes me so annoyed with our society. I mean seriously, people need to get a grip.

Plus the witchcraft, sorcery stuff made me uncomfortable.

First of all, I'm a Christian, and I don't hate Harry Potter.

Many Christians aren't too fond of him because of the witchcraft in the book. The Bible says "Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts." (Rev. 9:21) Harry Potter has two types of wizards, good and bad. But sorcery is defined as the use of black magic. Black magic as in evil, and evil is not of God. Many Christians dont want to read them because of that reason. Now I'm sure you're now thinking why we don't hate Narnia, or Lord of the Rings. It's easy, the Bible is found in that. The story of the Resurrection is found in both of them! The link below is about the greatest story ever, God's story, in a fantasy land, yet the basics and most important essence in it that we can learn from, and learn about God.

My view on it is that it is a good book to read, just don't obsess over it. Read some other books, like House, Saint, Blink, and Showdown. Christian books that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

"There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God. For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do." (Deuteronomy 18:10-14)

the potter books are witch craft 101 and further... they are tales of evil fighting evil for the domination of evil... the spells and the names of the forces of evil used are actual names and real spells that can summon the forces of evil... if used properly and if the forces of evil wish to respond...the tool(author) of the work is a witch and admited all this early on in her interviews... but when the stories took off and stated making the big bucks all of the evil connetions were quickly pushed under the rug and no longer disscussed..

The potter stories are in dirct oposition to the Word and Will of God....

The bible God's Word) forbids anything to do with all the junk in the HP books/movies,i.e. witchcraft, sorcerer's,on and on.And it is appalling that Christians are into this stuff when it is forbidden because even though it is fiction/fairy tales/it is of the devil and not God and it is incredible that parents even buy all of the series for their children!

We will be held accountable for ignoring what the Bible says and you may laugh but disobedience to our Creator/Savior is not funny. The more our children see this stuff, not to mention the killings, etc. in video games they play, the more they come to accept it as normal and satan is jumping for joy .
