Emp, I tend to agree with you on this 100%. Folks go to such lengths to word thjemselves so as NOT to sound demeaning that their attempts are demeaning in and of themselves. I work with several Disabled Adutls and people often ask me waht's wrong with them and I tell them that they have Mental Retardatin. They look at me as though I was the cruelest person on the face of the planet. I inform them that is exactly what it says in their medical records. That's their diagnosis, their medical diagnosis. NOw I don't go around saying that I take care of Retards or Tards. I tell folks that I take care of adults who have mental retardation and mental illness. If they can't handle the Truth them what's the point of suger coating it and giving them an innacurate but PC definition such as "Intellectually Challenged"? Their mental functions have been retarded, hence the medical diagnosis of Mental Retardation. When we see a Black person do we say that he/she has an excess of melanin? No we just say he/she's a Black person. No insult intended, NO racial slurs intended, we are merely describing the person, based on how they look.

You'd think by the way some people act. But, most politically correct people are obnoxious, self centered as tornados, meanspirited and exclusivist. Remember, Political Correctness was stolen from the the Red Chinese back in the 60's by the Radical Chic crowd to drive out all of those unpleasant, low brow working class types who were the meat and bones of the Left.

I've never understood why Righties complain about it. Best thing that ever happened to them.

And, it's entirely possible to be politcally incorrect and nice. Most people care less about what you call them, as long as you treat them right.

People who are politically correct are nice. Politically correct is a term people use when they don't like being called to the carpet for their outdated terms.

Of course not. I would prefer honesty and respecting the views of the listener to being politically correct, especially because there is great disagreement concerning what constitutes a politically correct statement. My very liberal daughter chastised me for calling someone "deaf." Apparently I should have said "hearing impaired." I had to remind her that the deaf community calls itself the deaf community.

Nice is optional - politically correct is just WRONG

A lot of what we call 'politically correct' is just being nice. If you call your girlfriend your 'b*tch' in front of people, that is neither. Or if you have a friend who's disabled and you call him a 'cripple'. If I called you an 'intolerant jerk' in front of other people, that would not be nice -or- politically correct.

If it's too much trouble for you to be polite and nice to people, then it probably wouldn't help you to be politically correct.

I think bieng nice means not making people be politically correct.
It is often more insulting then what you are trying not to say, anyways.

Just kidding- just be nice and you will be okay.
