Hi! In 25 years of dentistry I see this every day. People who have great hygiene still call upset with pain. I see on the xrays the effect of grinding and clenching with tiny stress fractures in the tooth or jaw. This can be very painful.
The easiest way to treat this for now is with a custom made mouth guard you wear when you sleep. The next thing is to identify your triggers during the day when you clench. Bad drives, certain people, things that make you mad or crazy and little things that you find you bite down and hold.
Once you get this, then do this. Open your mouth about 1 inch, breath thru your nose and exhale through your mouth. Drop your sholuders and say, "This is sooo not worth breaking teeth or having pain" Take back you power of letting other things or people upset you.
Next, before you go to bed, don't angst. Think of cool things or a movie star you would ike to be with. Imagine the dialogue or hanging out with them. I've in love with Huge Laurie (House) so this works for me. lol. But I mean it. IT does work once you practice for a few weeks. You will not slam you teeth togther so hard when you sleep.
Next, brush, floss and ask you dentist for a fluoride gel like Oral B Care of FluorideX to put on each night and spit out. No rinsing allowed. This will strenghten your teeth and help reduce pain.
Next, love you. You are special and unique and one of kind. Don't let anyone tell you different. Be the best you can be and don't get hung up on dumb things that you can not change. Move on. You deserve to be happy and I promise you, you are probably an amazing person just because you care alot about other people and animals. If you have any other questions, please ask. Marie

Possibly... are you grinding your teeth due to the stress? You might do that at night, and not be aware of it. You might also clench your teeth when doing something hard or strenuous or stressful. Try paying attention to that. Your dentist can tell you if you're grinding your teeth. You might try a simple sports tooth protector or mouthpiece to prevent that, but see what he says, first.

Possibly you are grinding your teeth or clenching your jaw due to stress and you don't realize it.
