My mom does it, so I was just wondering. I usually don't give it to my dogs.. but they are out of rawhides and pig ears!

It's not good for dogs to eat chicken bones. They can choke on them or upset their stomachs. They can also start vomiting them up.

NO and rawhides aren't good either. Chicken bones - especially cooked bones can splinter and rip apart their guts, or they can get stuck and not pass and then you have to have surgery on them to get the mass and dead tissue out. The same thing can happen with rawhides.

While your mom would argue - but I have been doing it for years, it's fine and you might say the same thing about rawhides, there is a greater statistical chance that something terrible can happen with these two particular "treats". If you can avoid that by avoiding these "products" then you should.

There are larger raw bones that you can get from the butcher that make wonderful chew "toys". You feed them raw. Kongs with frozen peanut butter is also a safe option for a pet. But please no chicken bones!

Not if they are cooked! They will splinter.
Raw bones are not going to hurt them. Do you think dogs when they caught wild pray picked the bones out. I think not. When we slaughtered a chicken on the farm the dogs got the head and feet and it never hurt them. They ate the beak and everything.
Back in the old days when I was a kid you could go to the butcher and get beef bones for free. We gave them to the dogs all the time.

Some people do, but I've heard many not recommend it because the bones are so small and the dog may choke on it. That in addition to cooked bones being bad because of the possibility of the bone "splintering" and the splintered pieces causing intestinal damage. Depends on the size of your dog too. In the end, some people do and have no problem, others don't for fear of injuring the animal. I know that's a wishy washy answer, but it's the truth!

Absolutely not. Chicken bones splinter, and can lodge in your dogs throat/intenstines causing serious problems. Pig ears also can splinter.... pig hooves are not any more safe. My dog damn near swallowed a whole one and choked it back up.
Theres no reason your dogs can't got a day or two without treats until you buy some more, do not risk your animals' health.

As a Rule I Do NOT give Chicken Bones to my dogs, but, for those that do such,...........do NOT give them Cooked or Baked Chicken Bones.

ONLY Raw Chicken Bones, but, if you are out of the others (Pork & Beef) .......he won't be mad at you. I had a dog when I was young that got into our garbage and ate "cooked" chicken bones. He died next to my bed as I slept.

I'd pass on Chicken bones altogether. Wait until you have better bones for him, or find something safer to give him if you must.

***ADDED*** When I give my Dogs "Boiled" Chicken and then drained, I then De-Bone the Chicken very meticulously with Rubber Gloves on to feel for every small bone. I do allow them to eat the Cartilage which is okay. However; I double-check my Chicken for my dogs, and not a single bone makes it into their bowl then I mix it with dry kibble for a good (once-in-awhile) meal.

***WORDS OF WISDOM IMHO*** - Any "Cooked" and processed rawhides, chews, Pig's Ears, and the like for the most part pose a sustained level of risk. Many of our Dogs that do chew and eat Rawhides, Pig's Ears, Big Beef Bones, and the like are just beating the odds. But, there "is" odds against them.

I bought a very large Beef Hip Joint Bone that was sold at my local Feed Store just as I have bought the large Beef Leg Bones that also are cooked. Safe right??? Not Really. Since they are cooked, this is what makes them dangerous. I've seen the powerful jaws of my German Shepherds or my Rottweiler break off pieces before into jagged sharp smaller pieces that would not break up if not cooked. I have had close calls with my dogs with big beef bones also.

The very BEST bones to give your Dogs are big Beef Bones from a Butcher or same for Pork or Mutton. I've given my dogs "fresh" leg bones from Deer that were shot by a neighbor, and, it was the safest thing just as raw bones from a butchered Beef or Hog would be. You could boil such bones for a minute to kill some bacteria if you are/were concerned, but, rarely is any such bacteria dangerous to the dogs since their stomach's digestive juices handle this and such moves through the digestive systems of dogs quickly.

I wouldnt! Dogs could choke and will eventually vomit or lead to indegestion. My dalmation does it everytime even if she eats a little chicken wing bone! She looks pretty sick after vomitting and I dont like to see her that way. So for your dogs own sake and good health, feed it something other than bones! Somedays I split my lunch with my dog when my parents were out, so that I know she was being nourished correctly.

RAW chicken wings, necks or backs are all fine..do NOT ever feed a dog cooked bones of any kind especially chicken. Cooked chicken bones can be extremely dangerous. RAW (of those mentioned above) are fine since they don't splinter and are pliable.

Please, no chicken bones. They splinter. And, it really does not matter how large or small your dog is. A while with out rawhide or pig ears is a small price to pay for splintering bones.
