i went to shanghai, beijing and a couple of more cities 2 weeks ago, its really not that expensive except for the air travel...hotel stay can atleast be around 200 yuan per night (thats what i paid) which is like hmmm 30 bucks per night (canadian)...watch out with the water though...make sure u always drink bottled water and never the tap water. Taxis are really really cheap there too...but make sure the taxis that you use are actually owned by the gov't because private taxis will just rip you off...anyways...a normal taxi ride will be $1-$5 or maybe more...depends on how far you are going...anways...have fun! make sure you pack light because you'll be shopping a lot...i hope...things are super cheap there

Shanghai is not cheap, so plan ahead. Taxis and food are cheap. The cheap hotels can get really bad so check them out in advance.

I have been to china many times. I found a good website for my pre-planning. It is always changing. You can contact tour guides directly for ideas and plans. www.itsaboutchina.com
check it out.
