I would like to go visit a friend in Providence next weekend. Amtrak is over $150 round trip and Greyhound stops too many times (and their buses are always smelly..)

I know that I can take Chinatown buses to Boston and then get to providence, but that seems to be overshooting the mark. Is anyone familiar with Metro North and the various mass transit commuter lines in Connecticut and Rhode Island? I think there has to be a way to do it by taking all commuter trains, but I need some advice.

By train, Amtrak reaches New Haven, and Shoreline East runs east from there... but not all the way to Providence.

By bus, Peter Pan goes to Providence; Bonanza might also. They might stop as often as Greyhound, though.

Metro North goes as far as New Haven, CT. There might be a bus or something to Providence. Other than Amtrak or Greyhound, I dont know of anything else. Unless you take a plane.

the china town bus is the cheapest but then you still have to take the train from boston to providence, other than that you can take Peter Pan or Bonanza buslines. Besides Amtrack there really aren't any other options. I live Prov and have all of my family in NYC and Boston. Sorry I couldn't give you more options. Mybe you can find a ride share program.... but then you are stuckin a car with some freak you don't know.....
Good Luck
Have fum in Prov it really is a Great little city

Find a Bus Company..that makes runs to the Casinos in CT. They run cheap...because of the profit the casinos make. They are right near the RHode Island border..and your friend can pick you up there. Do NOT... spend the money you saved ... IN THE CASINO !

Amtrak is it for trains. There is probably a competitor for Greyhound...check the phone book.
