There is an interesting problem with selling the “Iran as Nazi Germany” line. If Ahmadinejad really is Hitler, ready to commit genocide against Israel’s Jews as soon as he can get his hands on a nuclear weapon, why are some 25,000 Jews living peacefully in Iran and more than reluctant to leave despite repeated enticements from Israel and American Jews?
What is the basis for Israel’s dire forecasts -- the ideological scaffolding being erected, presumably, to justify an attack on Iran? Helpfully, as George Bush defended his Iraq policies last month, he reminded us yet again of the menace Iran supposedly poses: it is “threatening to wipe Israel off the map”.
This myth has been endlessly recycled since a translating error was made of a speech Ahmadinejad delivered nearly two years ago. Farsi experts have verified that the Iranian president, far from threatening to destroy Israel, was quoting from an earlier speech by the late Ayatollah Khomeini in which he reassured supporters of the Palestinians that “the Zionist regime in Jerusalem” would “vanish from the page of time”.
He was not threatening to exterminate Jews or even Israel. He was comparing Israel’s occupation of the Palestinians with other illegitimate systems of rule whose time had passed, including the Shahs who once ruled Iran, apartheid South Africa and the Soviet empire. Nonetheless, this erroneous translation has survived and prospered because Israel and her supporters have exploited it for their own crude propaganda purposes.

The only reason that Jews live in Iran is because they are NOT allowed to leave! Applying to leave Iran means a Jew loses his/her job, they become watched- and if the government doesn't like them- accussed and hanged as a py- such as they did to 10 Jews only a few years ago! (Including a 17 year old barbers assistance- evidently he was a spy handling state secrets as well!)
And if a Jewish businessman should dare to help othe rJews make aliyah- they dissapear into an Iranian prison- never to re-appear except as a corpse- as has happened to more than one person... The Jews do not live freely in Iran- nor do they have freedom of religion- the Iranian government forces them to violate the Sabath by keeping schools and communal institutions open - forcing them to break numerous laws...
And if a Jew does manage to go to Israel- they are not allowed to go with their families, all they own is forfeited to the state- and thus they must leave impoverished both of their material goods and their family- knowing they will never see their families again

Very very silly of you.
Do you think Ahmadinejad has only made one speech regarding Israel? In fact, he has made several speeches regarding it. And it is very clear, if he had his way, what he would do with Israel.
And the apologist's BS about that he was only making an analogy to the Soviet Union, is just that, BS. (Oh, and by the way, did he mention the Soviet Union as an analogy in his speech? Its amazing how you can put words into his mouth.) If that is true, how is it expected that Israel would disappear like those other regimes? The only way that could happen is with military action and mass deportation or extermination of its Jewish population. So, in other words, no matter how you SPIN it, when he said "wipe out" he really meant it.

Hmmmm.... possibly Jews experience safer in Iran, provided that the Iranian president back and back vows to 'wipe Israel off the map'.....! Iran is, in certainty, the only Arab state that hasn't kicked out its' Jewish community. In all different Islamic international locations, the Jews have been expelled; in Egypt and Iraq, case in point, there have been lively Jewish communities, yet no longer any extra. There are no longer that many Jews nevertheless residing in Iran, notwithstanding; a strategies decrease than there have been initially. I think of they opt for to stay there by using fact it somewhat is what they comprehend, and all their kin are there.

So, where does Jonathan Cook get his claim to fame ? How do any of us know that what he says is true. He is a journalist, right ? A journalist's agenda is to sell his/her written material to papers and magazines. The more controversial the material, the more places he can sell his " as yet proven ramblings ". I cannot imagine that 25,000 FAITHFUL Jews would be living peacefully in IRAN. If the Taliban are killing innocent missionaries from Korea, who are not Jewish, how safe would practicing Jews be in the country whose leader was taped saying he wants to wipe every Jew off the earth. He said that ON LIVE TV. I think the jury is still out on Johnathan Cook. Please show me the proof.

Ummm.....sorry, but what you're saying is completely garbage. And about the reluctance of the Jews to leave, and the money they've been offered--yeah, yeah, we've heard this before too. Here's the answer:
Its simple- Jews in Iran who want to leave to go to Israel are accussed of treason and thrown in jail. More than one Jew has dissapeared into an Iranian prison after applying to leave the country, to never be seen again. On top of that, the Iranian government never allows a whole family to leave, but only allows one member to leave, meaning they have to accept never seeing their families again, how many parents/spouses/children never want to see their loved ones again?
So of course Iranian Jews behave like good citizens and make their loyalty pledges, if they don't, they get called traitors and thrown into prison!
From the article you linked to:
"Hostility between Iran's Islamic government and Israel means Iranian Jews are often subject to official mistrust and scrutiny. In 2000 10 Jews in the southern city of Shiraz were jailed for spying for Israel, which Iran refuses to recognise.
A Jewish businessman, Ruhollah Kadkhodah-Zadeh, was hanged in 1998, apparently for allegedly helping Jews to emigrate."
and "Jews are free to practise their religion and have their own schools, although they are forced to open on Saturdays, the Jewish sabbath." Freedom to practice their religion? But they are compelled to break Jewish laws at the behest of the Iranian government? The Guardian normally leaves their apologetics for slandering Israel, seems they turned it to justifying oppression of Jews this time!
Blocked and flagged.

Just read article on this. First stop implying that there's thousands of Jews in Iran. There's only a handful of Jews left so why should Iran's government bother with them. Iran's too busy trying to get a nuclear bomb to start WW3 and "save" the Muslim world.

We all know there are jews in Iran, that wasnt news to most of us. We also knew there were Christians in Iraq, but you really think they were happy? You really think Jews and christians in these countries arent discriminated against? Idiot
