dexadreson is anti-inflammatory and synulox is an antibotic. i think you have a case because synulox is commonly used for respiratory and urinary tract problems. no where does it say that it should be used on the kidneys or liver. if it was a liver problem your vet should have known by the yellowing under the cats eyes.

Exactly as the arizonapenguin said. Initial treatment for either condition would probably have been the same until the blood results came back. Once the vet knew the exact results of the test he would have made the decision on what Tx to carry on with. As it was it sounds like the liver was too far gone. The vet did nothing wrong and I would say pay up before you lose the court case and have that added expense too.
Synulox unfortunately can cause swelling where it is injected but would have made no difference to the decision to put your cat to sleep.

Your pet was treated with anti-inflammatory and antibiotic medications. Here's where the lawsuit would come in. If this is the same treatment that would have been given for a liver problem then you have no case. If the results from the blood test did not come in until the following morning, and the doctor had to make an immediate choice on the course of medical action for fear of your cats life, then you may or may not have a case. If your cat was dying an no medication could have helped, you have no case.
Now, if there would have been a different course of action the vet could have taken knowing it was liver problem then you may have a case. It will come down to when the tests results came back.
Good luck. I have several pets and would be devastated and angry if anything happened to any of them.

It sounds like your cat was very sick and your vet was treating the symptoms until the lab-work got back. A shot of dexamethasone and antibiotic should not have made your cat worse. They can be indicated in many liver diseases as well. Liver or kidney disease in a 16 year old cat is life threatening, and it may have already been too late to do any treatment. The only way you'd have a chance in court is if you can prove he did something negligent or mislead you on purpose. You can bring this up to your states veterinary board--they are the governing agency for vets and will be the ones to determine if malpractice was committed.

One thing you could do is to call your vet and suggest meeting with him and discussing your cats problem. Explain that you haven't paid the bill yet because you have questions about what was actually done and tell them once your questions have been answered you'll pay the bill. If they say no ( and no vet would) then I would suggest to calmly request a copy of all your cats records including bloodwork. Then call a vet (the best bet is to use your state vet) and speak with the vet about what was going on with your cat and then fax the bloodwork and medical records and ask their opinion. Then go from there. I work in a vet office and we have had a few clients who misunderstood what actually happened to their pet, never met with us or told us about their being upset with us and then never paid. Then we took them to court and they found out we did nothing wrong and had to pay all these fees and were very embarrassed.

I am really sorry about the loss of your kitty.I am sorry to say but it seems like the vet made a huge mistake.I mean you trusted him to help your cat and he says he treated it for the wrong thing that is crazy.I mean if he would of diagnosed the cat right in the first place and it got the proper treatment this could of been prevented maybe. If anything you should be bringing him to court.I would fight it. Please don't let him get away with this.I mean what if something happens like this to another persons pet.

I do not think he killed your cat, I understood that he did the necessary, but anyway when an old cat get sick, it is difficult to cure, because usually they have liver or cancer that may end their life very quickly, so if he is claiming money, just pay him and accept what happened to your cat, I had the same with my 12 years old cat, her life ended the same way.

I don't know. Sounds like the vet was doing what he thought best at the time. I really don't think he would do anything legit to hurt your cat. Your cat was old. It sucks when we loose our pets, but sometimes it happens and there was really nothing we can do. I say, pay your bill.
