I've done this interviews, but never as an applicant (I represent a detention center). We're heavily interested in your personally--we provide the actual training you need to do the job. You'll be ask if you need any special accomodations (that's legal). The facility cannot refuse to hire you if you need to bring in insulin for example. Primarily, we look for people who are relaxed and have the ability to spend a shift with a bunch of prisoners who don't want to be there. We need officers who don't care if they're called a b#### by some prisoner every morning. You feel confidence. Bring that confidence to the interview and you'll get the job. Try to talk about previous jobs that involved stress or unhappy customers or difficult situations. Emphasize your ability not to be insulted. Also, you're part of a team, so stress how great you are with teamwork. BTW, the last officer we hired had a previous job as a waitress. It's not what you did, but how you handled difficulty. If you have previous education or experience in the area, that a plus, but it won't get you hired. YOU ARE STRONG/CONFIDENT/ HARD TO RATTLE. Be that person at the interview.

There are some important hidden agendas that you should be aware of:

1) Be careful in filling out the job application, signing cover letters, etc., especially regarding the size of your handwriting, since bold and large strokes are considered signs of someone's vanity and that you are not really a "team player" because of your own attitude of going your own way. Often many employers use graphology [handwriting analysis] as a means to sort out potential candidates, noting that major department stores and even Peuguot, the French car makers uses graphology exclusively as the sole means to screen potential employees. So, be careful in how you fill-out a job application.

2) Note your posture during the interview; try to avoid the shaking or twitching leg syndrome when you are seated and of course, do not chew any gum.

3) Avoid looking away from the interviewer when asked a question. Respond honestly to a question, even if you say, "I don't know the answer." But make sure that you look the interviewer in the "eye" as you give your response - this eye-to-eye contact is an indication of your truthfulness.

4) Even though you may feel pressured or nervous during the interview, speak clearly and slowly so that your words can be understood. Make a conscientious effort to lower the tone of your voice, so that you sound more mature and not so squeeky.

Good luck!

Just be relaxed during the interview so that you will be able to hear the questions properly and answer correctly. The questions delve on the legality of the case and be able to have valid reasons for all your allegations.

They'll try to ask you questions that will frustrate you,see how you react under pressure...remain calm and confident, and if confused, say that you're sure the training will prepare you for that situation...

Don't lie, don't exaggerate, be confidant but not arrogant. If in doubt of an answer to a scenario, refer to a sergeant.
