No, spaying before the first heat is best. Mammary tumors are the second most common tumors in dogs. Never spayed females have a 25% chance of developing them. Females spayed before the first heat go down to 0.5%!

spay as soon as pet is old enough, 4 months usually sometimes depends on weight, cat or dog whatever is no fun to go thru a heat cycle, dogs spot blood all over everything yuck and cats can spray and pee all over the place

I think you are better off spaying as soon as you can. You aren't going to breed the dog, she's a pet so what is the point of waiting?

spaying BEFORE the 1st heat greatly reduces the risk of mammary cancer, and other health problems!! DO NOT wait, this is an ugly rumor!!
besides their is always the chance for unwanted puppies and god know we dont need more of those in this world

I have done it both ways and I don't think there is a difference. I just think it's best for them to be at least 6 months before they are spayed. All the best;~)

No it isn't better. Even with one single heat cycle the risk of mammary cancer goes up.

Yes, give the internals a chance to fully grow and mature, less problems down the road

i dont think that you should spay your dog until after they have one litter. It allows them to go thru life completely. Its only fair.
