Find someone or a chart at a gym or anything really, to teach you some basic stretches then do them every morning. Every time you want to try and push yourself a little further then you did before WITHOUT hurting yourself. Then just make a habit of it and you'll be doing Bruce lee splits in no time.

Use a stretching machine: it works and does the work for you. Other than that, try yoga or intense plyometric stretching plus calisthenics.
