I am a hypochondriac and I suffer from a terrible phobia of HIV.

I am a virgin saving myself for marriage, never used IV drugs, and parents are completely healthy.

Yesterday, I took some Pepto-bismol....could this be the reason for my darkened stool or is it hiv???????

someone please give me some assurance.

a dark stool can most definitely be caused by the Pepto. A green stool just means that all the nutrients were not absorbed from whatever you ate. If you took pepto, you weren't feeling good anyway. So calm down, take a deep breath. You really are fine. (On a side note, I could always tell when my kids were getting sick with a cold, their stools would be green before they showed any other symptoms.)

Pepto-Bismol contains bismuth, which can cause black stools.

I'm not going to give you a link about this, because I don't want you reading about other symptoms and becoming worried (as you stated that you're a hypochondriac)!

Your dark stool is not a symptom of HIV. In fact, green stools are usually caused by rapid passage of feces (poop) through your intestines. Feces are green until they come into contact with enzymes in your intestines; then they turn brown.

If you had diarrhea, your feces passed through too quickly for it to turn brown. If you were constipated, then suddenly had diarrhea, the same thing may have occurred.

Ugh! You're lucky that Pepto-Bismol didn't turn YOU green- forget about your stool- black! You're fine. In fact, YOUR most serious "health problem"- is your Anxiety about everything. You're going to lose MORE years off your Life from THAT- than anything else. Life is to be LIVED & ENJOYED, not fretted over & worried about. You can't stop what's GOING to happen- from happening. So stop looking for "assurance"- & go "out there"- and spread some of your OWN around. It's not what you "have"- that matters; it's "what you DO with it". Have a good weekend. :)

If you are protecting yourself against HIV and so much conscious about it....than no fears....the stool's color could be of various reasons, like you ate something which causes the change of colour, you had a cold, or may be because of pepto-bismol but not HIV for sure...so don't put yourself in anxiety of this fear...and enjoy a natural life free of worries....and keep up with protecting yourself from the evil of HIV...good that you are still virgin.....

My best suggestion to you would be to read. It sounds like you have a lack of knowledge. Please read the two links that I provided for you.

Yesterday, I went to brush my teeth and noticed that my tongue black. Initially I panicked, but I started researching and found out that Pepto Bismol will cause this to happen along with dark stool. Then I remembered that the last thing I atebefore I went to bed were 2 Pepto Bismol chewable tablets. I hope that this information will be helpful.

Any kind of grape juice or dark berry juice will tend to turn your stool green.
It may have been the pepto, but I doubt it. It was something you drank or ate.
Blood it the stool is a whole new ball game. That can only be checked by your Dr.
You know the way to AIDS avoid them!

Pepto makes the stool really weird- blackish.
If this happened only when you took the Pepto, it was the Pepto. If it happens often for no reason, you could be anemic and/or have internal bleeding so see a doctor.

If you have never had sex and you have never been poked with a needle than you probably dont have HIV. Your stool could be dark for any number of different things. What did you eat yesterday? Did you have green veggies like salad or spinach? You are overreacting.

If what your saying is true you should not have hiv unless you swallow which you did not cover (sorry)!! Dark stool most likely is nothing. If it keeps up for a couple of days make a doctors appointment and bring a sample with you.
