Where and how should our Armed Forces be deployed/operate to effectively combat terrorism?

round up all the orphans we've made, and everybody else we've forced toward bitterness and despair, and snuff 'em. After all, genocide did resolve our problems with the injuns.

Alternatively, working toward a just peace may help, but the Armed Forces is not skilled at that.

I'm suprised to not see anyone mention increasing the number in the Special Warfare Community. We need to shift to more of a 4th generation type of warfare, but our Armed Forces are certainly doing a honorable and superb job for something that they weren't orginally intended for doing (they are more acting as a police force than fighting another uniformed military). Th e only thing is that we need to look far in the future in which we will need a more boots on the ground force when we will probably have to deal with China (but need to get through the War on Terrorism first).

the most effective way to combat terrorism is to ship the executive branch and all defense contractors over to the countries they feel threatened by - lock them all in a room with the leaders to hammer out a workable solution.

do not allow them to leave until they are five yrs into the peace process now make that 9 yrs into the peace process - yes 9 yrs - by then all problem domestically and foreign will be on the way to a workable solution.

we need their minds there - not the military - wars are won with diplomacy and deeds - uncle sam needs bush, congress, senate, judicial and of course all defense contractors to put away their guns and build country's first hand in person - they need to mingle with the people - explain our position - show their sincerely - pick up a shovel - build a school - hospital - road - whatever needs to be done - they need to put their beliefs on the line.

lets all give them a big send off - free balloons for everyone.

We should close our borders. Move all military personal and bases and equipment to border states and coastlines. Allow no body in and kick every body out that are not US citizens or in the country with legal documentation. Re establish an Ellis Island where anybody entering must be documented and quarantined before entering. But then we wouldn't be America if we did that, would we?

Interesting that you pose the question that way. To me, it will take the entire nation to combat terrorism. Not just the armed forces taking them on in their various hideouts.
"If you see something, say something!". That slogan should be on every bumper sticker and billboard in the country.

Terrorism is a non-military tactic. The military cannot effectively combat terrorism. Terrorism can only be fought using police tactics, intelligence, etc.

Take politicians and the media out of the equation and let the Generals acheive the goals of the Commander in Chief.

Surround America with a superior borders system and improve our Intelligence programs...You know, the kind of things that could have been achieved with the 450 billion that's been spent in Iraq...

the only possible way to confront terrorism is insanely unfair... which would be to not allow anyone in or out of the country... that or interrogate every last person to ever set foot in the states

...by having the Generals run the "war" not the Politicians... Take the "restraints" of the Generals (this is a war, right?) and our Military will have this mess cleaned up in 90 days.
(then Allah can see if he can find more virgins for the influx of lustful dead terrorists)....
